    Hello,
What's the best directory script out there?
    How many have you used?
I'm looking for a script that's great with seo and not very hard to use.
    Your opinion matters!
    Thanks!

Its got to be PHPLD thats http://www.phplinkdirectory.com/ ive used two, the other was Indexscript and it was good too, overall both easy to use.

    Both are fine with Seo.

I have used phpld, site-sift & esyndicat. I personally prefer esyndicat. Loads of free plugins & modifications. You can try them.

It's always phpLD. But esyndicat is nice as well.

phpLD or esyndicat for a change from the norm.

Use the search function. This gets discussed loads. Lets hope it doesn't turn into the usual phpLD vs phpLynx argument.

That's not going to happen Mikey, I saw this type of post coming ages ago, and it's sad that people are so naive to chant script X is the best without even trying the others, and I don't just mean the one in my footer.

I could kill this topic dead every go just by posting a comparison chart of features but won't as it's been done so many times before it would constitute a duplicate post like this one is.

To the OP, with the greatest of respect, use the search button and have in mind there are many scripts not even discussed on here that are far better than the one being thrown at you by the resident phpld fan club. ;)

@Pipes; Why shouldn't Mikey exercise his right to stay out of it, he's right on his post.

In the middle of what? The argument in general or my view on a particular script.

Can we get this thread closed? Otherwise someone is going to get tempted into posting a comparison chart again which doesn't quite agree with what your saying Don. As Mikey said, we don't want this to be yet another boring phpld versus phpLynx competition, there isn't any.

There is no such thing as a 'best'

Every script has its features/uniqueness. It is up to the end user to read each one and figure out which one suits their needs the best.

There are several favorites within the realm of the Directories section here on DP, but a favorite does not constitute as the 'best'.

Try the one in my signature, you will find a lot :)

PHPLD has good templates for free as well for very cheap price & free mods

Esyndicat i like is the their Free MODs & they too have free templates, but custom ones are little bit costly. The new 2.2.02 Is a piece of cake :)

Focalmedia is nice too, but little bit expensive, but their template system I like it :), use any HTML template

    Others i didnt try

One of the better answers I've heard here Rob, it's pathetic calling one thing better than the other. What one has in strenght it may have in failings, and vice verca.

I'm a cynic and absolutely convinced that people just come here to post this question just so people can jump out and cheerlead any given script, rather sad to be honest.

Just out of curiosity why do you not also compare esyndicat to your comparison chart? I was just wondering as I have not really looked at it since the version update and I don't know how it compares anymore (have a directory running on an older version). Thanks.

Can I chip in my 2pence (cents) worth? My sig has 4 different directories, running across 3 different scripts. Each script has its own strength, and likewise, each its own weakness and on that basis I wouldn't (& couldn't) select one over another. However, the one script that rarely seems to get a mention on DP is IndexU. You might want check it out as it has a couple of USP's that are just real neat.
