Adsense is my only source of revenue for that particluar site...but I doubt that I can be reinstated if I have other sources.

Adsense finally replied to my appeal, I was asking them to give me the reasons.....they just wrote this lonely line

Unfortunately, you are no longer eligible for participation in the AdSense
    program.

It's starting to make me laugh ...

yup bad things can happen and I guess I was unlucky and had a frustrated specialist checking on my account unfortunately

I'm trying adbrite on my old adsense site, I know it's not as good as adsense ...but I have nothing to lose

There must be literally thousands of other webmasters and affiliate marketers who got their accounts suspended. It could be that you have gone overboard with the terms of service in adsense.

Here is another way to avoid getting banned - BadSense AdSense Techniques. ;)

The same thing just happened to me - my site are now officially "not a good fit for Adsense anymore" - WHAT THE F!!!!!

I run proxy site, YES, but I ensure Adsense isn't featured on any of the proxified pages, which I believe was NOT a breach of their TOS? Adsense has been running on my network of sites for almost a year without a glitch, now this.

What are my options, if any, or is that it - I now need an Adsense alternative?

im pretty sure you can advertise sites with adsense code via adwords. A lot of people do it very successfully, all the time. The problem might be if your using other cheaper ppc like goclick.com or miva. Never use these sources for traffic as there is a lot of click fraud associated with them. How are you sourcing traffic?

Averrrrry good alternative to adsense is chitika. The payout is just as lucrative as adsense, and they actually have photo ads and other more appealing options. Look into them. and check out problogger.net.

adwords was almost my only source of traffic....that's why I'm still wondering....maybe the clicks did not convert ....but still it's not a good reason to have your account disabled.
