Does Sponsoring WP themes works/is a good link builing strategy

    Making + distribution or sponsoring WP themes is a good stratgy ?

    Or total waste of money

    Matt Cutts advises against it. He also advises against buying text links, so I would expect it works and thats why they don't like it.

    It works dude, I had a few designers links on around 5-6 themes a few months back and now I'm having good no. backlinks and also Technorati Authority has increased

    I would try this strategy among others.
    It can't be the only method of promotion also. You should do evrything in complex.

    You can always encrypt the footer and index file.
    That way the "average joe" won't be able to fix the code and remove it.

    Nowadays users don't really need the edit WP code, as everything is done by widgets.

    This is a good point.

    Wordpress themes in general don't help your SERPs much, as they are not from related sites. All they do is raise your backlink count.

    However if you had an entertainment site and sponsored some music/ipod related themes it could work well.

    Nice Blog MightyB!! You've got great info there.

    I agree that it is an effective way of link building from related sites (use themes that are related to your backlinked page/site). Porting it for Pligg. Sounds like a great idea to me!

    This seems like a great strategy for building backlinks I think Matt Cutts
    and google has too much power, if it's ethical and it works you should
    be able to do it without fear of being punished by google.

    Very good post. You have inspired me to design and release a template for a CMS that doesn't have many templates yet. I'm doing Wordpress themes, but there are thousands of WP themes nowadays, so it's quite difficult to get many downloads even if you have a nice theme.
