I could have ten pages of poor quality content and still get listed as a so called 'authority status', it's got nothing to do with quality, I'll say it for the last time, it's only to do with the way the site is laid out. If you've got your site listed with site-wides then you will know exactly what I mean, but I'm not telling everyone otherwise we'd do exactly the same to this feature google created as was done to PR. Ruin it.
I've had a 125x125 banner on DC until 2 days ago. Have received only 73 hits in one month so I decided to cancel the subscription as there are several other places to get more targeted traffic vs. the amount of money you pay. Don't try to be silly but it seems that DC don't deliver anymore. I remember months ago there was a huge queue to get listed there , now there are quite a lot of free ad spaces left. Sad...
Good luck to you, I'm not saying I didn't want to reveal the method, I just don't want to simply because there is a very real risk that people who are out to make a fast buck by pretending this so called authority status offers them more value for their money. I never played a part in the PR downfall and won't with this either. Once Google see sites abusing the indexing method needed to get listed like that you can be sure it will take drastic action to save face again.
Ok well im not trying to be silly Just saying that the alexa is very low and SHOULD deliver... I think the main Question should be.... Whats the ROI? If a site sends ya 10 million clicks and you cant make a sale then... thx malcolm
Good point, it will get abused sooner or later, as Google - to be fair - dishes them out a lot more hastily nowadays. I like to call it my favourite accident, 'cause I for one don't have a clue why my sitelinks have been assigned as they are. Especially if you looked at my site, you wouldn't understand it either.
I did look at your site and without you telling me it was http://www.cupargardencentre.co.uk/ that has the sitewides and I know exactly why. The more sites that get this status the more it confirms my theory of how it works. People have given me red rep for apparently being a bit of a prat regarding this but that is the very reason I won't reveal what I now know for definate is the method required to gain the status. Excellent work though Spider-Man, even going to get the people over at the directory in my sig to give you a free listing as a reward for your hard work.
Been borrowing my Spidey sense again, eh? Yes, it is that site, and yes, I don't know why some of those pages got sitelinks. If you think you can even point me in the right direction on getting other pages listed as opposed to the ones showing, especially 'Gardenwares 2007', because the title is both so-last-year, and that page has so little content it confuses me. Even more so that I don't even think that I personally have gained a single backlink to that page. Ah well, what you gonna do. Cheers for the listing though - here's my second +rep to you this month!
I've already asked one of our editors to start re-building the relevant category structure and review your site thoroughly, if we come up with anything to help we'll be sure to let you know. Guess you need to spread more green love about though as no green to be seen.
It wasn't a bad read and you'll see I made a post there, I had two mins to spare while drinking my coffee. Seriously though, I made a good point there when I asked the question that if this status was only limited to just a few as high PR was once would it have been a different story. Would the guilty parties of PR chasing have abused this just as quickly? I know I must be hitting a raw nerve amongst some on this thread as I've had more red here than ever before. Just shows the truth hurts.
But that is exactly what is happening hyper. Google come out with gimmicks like PR and now this linking method which some chancers see as an opportunity to abuse. I don't think Google would mind people making money as a by-product of their work but only if it was done in a legitimate way. That wasn't the case with PR and we all got slammed, if people were given half the chance they would have done the same with this so called 'authority status' given by them. This won't happen now though because people are slating it as nothing but a gimmick. I'm proud to say I'm probably one of the very first to have said this, and got slammed with red for saying so. Now everyone is singing the same tune as they see now what I saw a long time ago. Shame they won't give me Green for being right in the first place.
