Beginner seeking advice

I recently have created a blog site ( http://www.blogbytravis.com ) and I'm trying to market it well. I am passionate about health, fitness and modeling and this is the main purpose for creating this web site. I am also a college student looking to make passive income through adsense.

I am going to post regularly, at least one post a day. This is the first blog that I have ever created and I have been learning a lot about how it works. I am basically asking for any advice for improving it. I'm looking for search engine optimization tips, building relevant backlinks, networks to join, and basically anything that would assist me in this process. I realize that I am new to this forum, but I really want to learn and I am excited to see what kind of potential I can get out of this site.

I really appreciate any advice, suggetions, and overall help.

    Hey

Dont try to post every single day: often tends to break your flow, instead try to post once or twice a week and make some good unique posts with keywords relevant to you.

If you really love what you do, guess you'll have no problem finding good forums/blogs/websites/ezines that will appreciate your blog link, as long as content is unique and well written.

In a hurry, you'll see more traffic.

After that, try to monetize it. Not before.

Good luck and welcome aboard :D

I appreciate the advice, I think I have a list of a few web site that would help me get some backlinks. What are some good elements to add to blogs (like widgets, plugins exc)?

the ones you need. Doesnt make any sense to put alot of stuff in there just because.

write this on a paper and try to keep it real:

    > write unique content about what you love (fitness, health etc)

    > after 30-50 unique articles/posts with 500 words each, start to spread the word that you're out there: place links in places that talk about the same stuff you do

    > when trafic starts to show up, monetize it the best way you can, always delivering new posts/articles every single week

    > use rss feeds, WP ping plugin & WP sitemap plugin(cant remember the names)

    Remember:

If you create great content, everyone will be more than happy to link to you.
this way, you will get all the traffic you want.

    Content is king. Trust me.

If you want, you can write an article on something health/fitness related (600-1000 words) and I'll post it on my health site, as long as the article is good quality. I'll credit the article to you with a backlink to your blog. My site's pr4, well established and 600 unique visitors a day. If you want to check it out let me know and I'll pm you the url.

    I think WP-Ping plugin is called smart-update-pinger
and there is Google Sitemap Generator and another Dragon one or something i'm not sure which is best maybe someone else can say.
And I think RSS Feeds is already built into WP

    I agree.

Hey I was browsing the forums and I noticed that someone mentioned that it was better to get quality links first and then worry about social bookmarking and directory submission. Could someone please tell me why this is the case? I use social bookmarking to get me listed in google quickly, but should I stop now? Thanks

    Hi,

Getting quality links is very important and we can say that it is even more important than social bookmarking and directory submission but, that does not mean that social bookmarking and directory submission are a total waste. Get quality links but also do social bookmarking and directory submission side by side. So you can go ahead with your submissions and bookmarks and dont stop it, as its not at all a waste.

I appreciate the response. Sorry if I am asking noobie questions, but I'm a sponge right now so I will take in all the information that I can :). Also, what are the best places to submit articles to?

    ...Natural:

    launches site
    great unique relevant content
    traffic starts to flow
    site begins to be relevant
    quality backlinks start to appear
= site get rewarded inside the net

    ... and unnatural:

    site launches
    few and irrelevant content
    few or none traffic
alot of backlinks start to just show up all from directories, siglinks etc etc
= site gets stuck inside the net
