I made a small blog post containing a simple pic I created specially for the promotion of Free Software, namely the GNU/Linux Operating System http://www.internetling.com/2008/03/09/anti-virus-software-is-dead-use-linux/ (I also posted it to SU and Digg if anyone wants to bother) I just want to ask you: Do you agree? Why?
Don't you think if 90% of alle websites all over the world are running on Linux computers with no anti-virus protection it is a interesting target already? The anti-virus software makers are shouting for ages that there will be linux virusses, now there are millions linux computers running on the internet, with no virus protection, why is there no epedemic jet?
I don't agree at all, Linux is negligible in the desktop market where the viruses are most widespread. Anti virus is here to stay and will stay on for the foreseeable future.
Since Linux is open-source, anyone who wants to mess with the system would have all the codes available to anyone who wants to improve it or mess it up. I think the mindset that Linux is secure has to change because Linux can be hacked and have been hacked time and time again. I see that with the mindset that Windows is not secured would thus allow people to be more proactive to secure their own computer
