What is best for Web Designing? I assume PhotoShop is best for Pictures or Images. And Fireworks good for Designing Buttons, Banners, and layout of whole page ? Any huge difference between them both ?
If you're up for a good deal of configuration, you can get Fireworks to connect directly to Dreamweaver. This may not be the case now that Adobe owns them. (I'm used to older versions.)
I know I'm going to get flamed for this (despite being a Photoshop user), but if you want to really optimzie your graphics for the Web, get Paint Shop Pro. Faililng that, go with Fireworks.
I just think that it depends on what your used to using, or what you have learned using. Personally I like Photoshop better than others, but i've only tried Fireworks and Photoshop, and i'm getting taught using Photoshop, so why would I use something else?
i was brought up (web speaking) on photoshop, so i use it for everything. When i open my webpage to edit, i open photoshop, no matter what i need to do.
I also use fireworks. I did try photoshop, but I couldn't do nothing, so I'm still using fireworks (last 3 years). All this programs are good, you just have to find the one that is most suitable to you.
fireworks is a primarily vector program that renders well in pixels. It's good for web design yes. Vectors are more powerful than raster graphics for customizing, but your output is the web (screen, no print). Fireworks is the most powerful web graphics program. I regret not owning it currently. Photoshop is made for photographs. Yes it has abilities to create graphics for the web, but that's not it's job. It's job is photo manipulation.
They havn't been merged. Macromedia was bought by Adobe. There is still PS and Fireworks programs for sale, new versions since the merge, and there will be more new versions in the future.
I am not a designer..But I have a friend work as designer..She use firework & her work is very nice. But I think its depend on your skills..
i believe photoshop works better, its a lot easier to slice images and create user friendly websites (something like a forum or a splash page with links), but fireworks might be better if you're trying to make a site more focused on content and such (i.e. something with no CMS manager, just straight html)
Have you try fireworks before? There couldn't be easier to slice picture. The thing is that you can do almoust everything with both programs.
i am using Fireworks 2004.... i am trying to learn Photoshop better... and still use my old Microsoft picture it 2000 for some of my designing work....
photoshop for me.. i never imagined myself making what i would consider 'profesional' images/graphics when i started. but photoshop makes it easy and there are soo many tutorials if you are finding something dificult. (even youtube vids if you are lazy)
If web graphics is the arena, use GIMP. It is free, open source software that will handle anything Photoshop can do, other than print oriented stuff (cmyk, eg.). GIMP is built from the ground up for web graphics, where PS was developed for print, making it overkill for the web. For vector graphics, use Inkscape. My graphics design consultant, with almost 20 yrs. experience as an advertising manager/art director/graphic designer, has moved almost entirely from Illustrator to Inkscape. Since moving from tables to css for layout 5 years or so ago, I have had zero need to slice and dice images. Fireworks offers no needed features not already in GIMP, Inkscape or for automated/command-line image manipulation, the ImageMagick suite of utilities. cheers, gary
I use photoshop because that's what I learned first. Call me ignorant. But they both serve different purposes. One is for vectoring, and one is for photo-manips. imo, they both do well for designing a template or layout, it's all personal preference.
I use Fireworks, much more easier to use than Photoshop, for me at least, you can use fireworks to create any types of graphics for your website easily! header, banner, menu buttons, ads, even gif animation! and it's not overwhelming to use as photoshop is. but whatever you feel comfy using, that is what you should use.
I personally like (and always use) Fireworks! It's so user friendly, and more comfortable to use than Photoshop (imho )
