how can you find out how many backlinks your site has?

    do I just type tye url into google and the number of searches that comes back means those are backlinks?

    You use the link: command add your URL after link:

    Use Yahoo to check your backlinks they keep a better record.

    The link:yourdomain command in Google is very inaccurate and shows too low a number. Here are two good ways to check your backlinks more accurately. You will need to open a free account at each one, if you don't yet have one:

    • Google Webmaster Tools (you can Google it to find the url)

    • Yahoo Site Explorer (also free; you'll need an account)

    that only shows 27 results.

    if I type in Link:website url in yahoo it shows 300 inlinks
