Do these services have anything to do with blog directories?

The following list is something I copied from a DP list to ad to Wordpress | Options | Writing. Are any of the following blog directories other than Technorati? What sites are being pinged here?

    Here is my Wordpress list:

This is what is commonly known as RSS announcement list. They are blog agregators similar to technorati in functions. this is rather large list and before placing it in your WP I would recommend you check them out and see which will fit you best, that is if you are actually interested. It looks like a good list either way and helps you market your RSS feed .... I have more on the topic on my blog if you are interested:

Do these automatically list your blog in a blog directory or are they just for RSS feeds? What exactly do they do?

They are RSS agregators and in case with some - search engines. When you ping them - they become "aware" new article is published on your blog and visit it to cache it. If someone searches for content on their fron pages like the case with Yahoo or technorati - they will present list of blog posts that fit that search. Some allow other people to actually subscribe to your feed directly, some provide a front end for news .... they really defer and that is why I suggested you have a look at them.

Generally - ping them, it will not hurt you and does bring visitors :D
