Hi Everyone, I went outside this morning and my car is leaking something bright yellow out of my muffler it appears. Can anyone diagonose the problem? Expensive to fix? Thanks!
Does it look like antifreeze? If so, yes very expensive. Possibly cracked head/head gasket. 'BTW' I am not 'into' cars much anymore so I could be way off. ---- http://wiki.answers.com/Q/White_smo...sket_If_so_can_I_use_sealant_as_temporary_fix
I'm not sure what antifreeze looks like. If I leave the car sit and run for around 10-15 minutes. Their will be a small puddle of dark brown/bright yellow in the snow. I read this on another forum, could it possible be the problem?
Seems to be the Coolant is leaking from its can. Anyhow please consult a reputed auto-physician in your area. But it will definitely consume few dollars to fix it...
Depends on the brand of antifreeze, some are different colors. You can open your radiator 'when cold' or check your overflow to see if the color matches up. It could be rust, or build up from the car running. Have to see what it actually looks like to know what it is.
If it is coming from the muffler area as you think it is then I would be going with the rust water theory. I need to know what kind of vehicle you drive and where exactly the muffler is on the vehicle. Muffler positions vary.
It's a 2002 Ford Escape. The muffler is on the passenger side right in front of the rear wheel. I just got off the phone with my dad and he said his car is doing the same thing. Keep in mind both of these cars aren't driven that much & this is the first significant snowfall of the year.
Sounds like what happened is the snow got on the muffler and melted. The muffler is rusty and the rust came off onto the fresh snow. The rust would come off with water but you wouldn't notice in a rainstorm simply because it's wet and no white background like the snow that's on the ground.
