I have an Idea....but...

I have this idea to create a social networking forum that includes:

    Myspace

    Facebook

    and

    Youtube

discussions, but I am unsure on how to approach this so that I am successful. I am considering paying people to post to get it started...but what else can I do to really get the site going?

    Any Ideas? or Tips?

Well I guess it goes something like this:

    Step 1) Set Up Forum
    Step 2) Get Users....

Step 2 is where I'm gonna need help...

Well that will require a lot of advertising.

First, have you started the site already or are you going to still thinking about it?

Second do you have the skills to make it happen?

These questions are very important and should de addressed before you start thinking about getting visitors.

Okay so I started up a little blog instead of making a forum, maybe that will do me some good although it is pretty general I don't foresee it making me much $$ money $$.

A social networking forum is a forum about how to manipulate sites like Myspace and Youtube in your favor....maybe that kind of thing is better suited for a blog...I don't know...

Well before you plan on getting posters, I'd plan on hiring someone to make a custom template. Maybe even someone on here you could find. Nothing looks better than a sleek, professional, different page.
Then as others said, advertise. Find some friends you have online and tell them to join.

Get a custom forum template and site design,
Tell your friends, family and everyone you know about it and hope for the best.

I would recommend you keep up with the blog first.
Post great content on there on how to exploit social sites and this is where you can potentially get some traffic.
If a few months from now you start getting some regular visitors then you can attach a forum to your blog for people to talk to each other about the ideas you present and share some of their own. So, with your blog, create a need for a discussion and then give it to them.

This is just my personal opinion, but paying people to post is a bad idea. I always stay away from such forums for a lot of reasons, but mainly because it looks desperate, and the money usually isn't anything worthwhile. Don't go that route.

Build a website first, promote that, then launch the forums thereafter. A good website will give the forums credibility, and launching one off of a popular website will create a fast influx of members and posts.

I like what everyone has said and after much thought...I've decided to NOT upkeep a forum. I was wondering about creating a mini myspace resource site on my domain Jaysmyne.com IE. I would create a subdomain http://myspace.jaysmyne.com and hopefully get traffic.....? I just opened a new myspace page and have 1,500 friends on it from just today.

This stuck out to me because thats what I do. I exploit myspace to get artists and bands fans that will buy their music. I was quite impressed with myself because two people commented on my blog, one on the first post and another person on the second post. So maybe if I create a simple blog on how to get traffic to your myspace page I could be really successful, I could go from there....to converting traffic!

Would you read a blog like that?

My next question is buying links for PR ratings...is that a good idea?
