Computer trouble, what is wrong? MONEY could be INVOLVED

I just bought a new computer on ebay, and it turns on, shuts off, and turns back on, which I have seen other computers do and work, but this one doesn't show anything on the screen. After it turns on, it shuts down about 2 seconds later and that is after I press the button, and then it runs fine, except I don't see anything on my lcd screen. I thought it was the lcd, so I traded that out, thought it was the video card, so I put my 8800gts in, and still nothing. I am thinking its either the cpu/motherboard/psu. Psu's usually shut down right away and don't come back up I think. I also reseated the cpu, and that didn't help.

Please help me, and give me suggestions on stuff to do. I unplugged everything except the ram, video card, and power supply. I even tried taking the ram out, and putting one stick in and booting up, but still nothing.

Help is appreciated, and if I have to purchase parts, and its not too expensive, and the computer works, I may pay somebody. The person I pay if I do, will have to help me make my computer work again, and I am in school for an IT pro job, but I didn't get A+ yet, and I know if I had spare money lying around or spare parts, I could easily figure out what is wrong.

I was thinking about getting my uncle to check it out, cause he has core 2 duos, and core 2 duo motherboards.

The motherboard is an asus p58-6
cpu is a core 2 duo, which is all I know right now, cause I can't get bios or anything

    hard drive is 250gb sata
    dvd rom
    cd rom drives
650 or 750 watt power supply, I didn't take it out to check.

I just tested another power supply, and still nothing. It has to be either the motherboard or cpu. Please tell me. I really need a computer. I sold this one, and I don't have another one, so please help me out.

Unplug the RAM + hard drives

    1. Boot with no hard drives or ram
    2. Boot with ram but no hard drives
    3. Continue to slowly reattach everything 1 by 1

Please do these steps even if you've done them already.

it was $250.00 and yes. I just cleared the cmos, and that didn't do the trick either. Please help.

I just took both ram sticks out, and I am not getting any beep codes anymore. That can't be a good thing.

I did try a pci graphics card, and 2 different pci express cards, and nothing at all. The computer will stay on until I turn it off, but I get no picture.

I have a 400 watt, and I used that to test it, only had the cpu and a crappy pci graphics card, so of course it would've ran, but it displayed no picture. Thank you anyway hello_welcome.

I have seen this exact problem associated with the power plug going into the boot drive (hard drive).
Most people wobble the plugs to remove them and the female pins spread. As soon as you try to boot , the vibration can break the contact and the PC usually shuts down immediately.
Try swapping the power cable to the hard drive.
    Hope this helps

Sorry, but that isn't why the computer shuts off and starts up right away. First off, its a sata drive, and with everything unplugged, except for the graphics card, cpu, motherboard, and power supply, it still happens.

I even tried a graphics card that didn't need power from the power supply, and same thing.

When I press the restart button, my computer doesn't restart, it shuts down, and then turns back on. weird stuff going on their.

    Noobie sounds right to me.
I had the same problem (random rebooting) and it was the RAM.

That didn't work, I bought 2gb (2x1Gb) G.Skill memory. I don't know where to find the memory things for that motherboard, but the corsair one was listed on one of the things I sall.

I am still open for advise.

    look at this forum: http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1143017

They say that corsair, and g.skill memory should work, which I have 2gb of both, and neither work for me.

I do a lot of business online, and since I sold my laptop, I don't have a computer to do business online. I really need this thing working.

I am working on buying another laptop, but that could take some time to do, cause I am low on the dough.

Kids here at school, said that I should take the hard drive out, and install an operating system on it, or reinstall or whatever, cause I don't know if anything is on there, and they said that will probably do the trick. I honestly have no clue, but I am going to try it.

ok, is it the motherboard now? I got a new cpu, and I still get the same thing. I am going to try a different graphics card right now, and post back if its fixed or not.

Just tried another graphics card, and nothing came up on the screen again. I am really getting tired of this, and I really don't got money, or time to work on it, cause of school and work, and trying to start a business which is taking all my money.

EDIT: the other posts werent loading so didn't see youd tried my suggestions so heres another.

Try checking the cables between the different drives, perhaps one of them is faulty, it can happen. If all else fails you may need another motherboard

yeah, I did that already, I thought if the motherboard was shot, it would beep, smell, keep restarting the computer, or just not turn on.

This is pretty strange, it's bound to be something really simple too.

Have you put anything new into the pc recently? such as a hard drive or cdr drive? as a few months ago I was fitting a new dvd drive and then wondered why the hell it didnt boot up, and after screaming at it several times (and giving it the odd kick) I realised it was the jumper setting at the back of the drive, where the pin is for selecting slave modes etc.

Could it be that? as mine looked as if it was gunna boot up and before it got to the windows bit it restarted.

I don't think so, and shouldn't I see a post before all of that? It can't be a drive, cause it only takes memory, cpu, and the motherboard to post. I have tried everything so far, except for a new motherboard.

hmm - was just a suggestion lol

as sherlock holmes would say - " whatever answer is left must be the one "

or you could just buy a new pc if that doesn't work lol, might be cheaper, and you can just keep the new equipment you bought and shove it in the new one.

I just tried all 3 graphics cards again, and with the 1 pci express one I tried before, I just got all these reboots, and the power supply tester I have said the power supply was shot, so I went to another computer, and it worked great, that tester is weird, cause a lot of power supplies such as dells it says are bad, but they work fine too, Mine is an Antec though.

Anyway, I got rid of the reboots and everything, and I am going to see if I can get a new motherboard.

Since this costed me so much money, I am sorry I can't pay, also you guys all went away from thinking it was the motherboard, until I mentioned that it had to be the motherboard.

Sorry, but nobody was right on. Its basically like I said it was either the motherboard or the cpu, but it was both, so I was a little off.

Thank you guys who atleast tried to help me out. I know some people viewed this, and just didn't want to write anything down, so thank you guys who took the time to write stuff. If I was rich, I would probably pay everybody who wrote stuff down on this page.
