Google Crawled my site but didnt update it?

Ok so i have re-built/designed an age old domain that has been sitting in google for 8 years or so now.

I can't wait for googles cache to get updated :p

When i check my site logs it says Googlebot crawls it everyday but Googles cache of my site is 2 weeks old??

Also - I'm planning to add fresh content every day - how long do you think it will take for Googlebot to recognise this and actually index my site everyday (rather than just crawl it).

    All the best,
    D.

Dont worry about that the site IS built i made sure i put a full site on. Plus i'm adding around 2 or 3 unique 300 word articles about the niche my business is in each day.

But my question was - is it normal for Google to crawl a site so frequently yet not update it in the indexing?

Yes, that is quite normal. Google crawls more often than it updates the entire cached index. I run into it all the time. It just takes patience. After perhaps a week or so (hopefully much less :) ), the published, visible cache will update.

Cheers Jim - I'm an Eager Beaver. This site has been sitting on 300 uniques/perday for 5+ years now doing nothing, i think it has so much potential.

I hope google accepts it as a site which updates everyday...

quicksilver, yes, patience is needed. However, you can do some things meanwhile to enhance your site's ability to get indexed.

    • Be sure to include a keyword-rich link to it in your Digital Point signature.
    • Try opening a free page at squidoo.com. (They call your page a "lens" for some strange reason.) I did so a few weeks ago, and Google very quickly cached multiple deep links to my website from the squidoo page. Squidoo also began immediately to provide modest traffic to my site.

Another free site where you can get multiple links to your website is http://del.icio.us.

It could feel that way at any given moment. But I've worked diligently at getting backlinks. Yahoo! currently shows about 20,000, and Google is listing over 10,000 — which has resulted in the PR5 on my home page. In addition, well-chosen anchor text on your links can only help you in the SERPs.

If it will find unique content pages in next crawl , cache will be updated.

The frequency of caching depends on the importance of your site or the PR of your site and the frequency of adding fresh contents. Sites like yahoo or bbc are cached on daily basis. So if google finds your site imp then automatically the frequency of caching will increase. So start adding fresh new contents regularly.

Thanks Pastor Jim for the tip. I have been hesitant to try out squidoo. This time I will give it a try.
