Blogspot VS Wordpress

I currently have a blog on blogspot. My ultimate goal is to monetize it. I have been building my traffic over the last week, and am finally getting like 20+ uniques a day. I have built a few websites and traffic before... and know what I have done will grow pretty big over the next 90 days or so. My question is... (being new to using blogs) if I continue to use Blogspot.com for my blog, is there a disadvantage? I know my URL has ".blogspot" in it. Kind of a negative. But I hear that blogspot is layed out great for SEO already... I want to do this right, so any help would be great. Thanks.

Laid out great for SEO? That's interesting. Could you point me to some details on that?

And you CAN use a custom domain name with blogger nowadays, can't you?

Well... I was told here on DP in an earlier thread I posted that Blogspot is owned by Google and they index it or something, having to do with it being "Google friendly" in some way or another.

As far as the custom domain... I don't know. Maybe someone on here can answer that?

This is really more an issue of control. You can do much more with Wordpress than you can with Blogspot. I don't think Google's ownership of Blogspot is going to give you any inherent advantage in the SEO area, since Wordpress can generate SEO-friendly URLs quite nicely.

And there are some pretty popular blogs that are run on Blogspot (Digital Inspiration: labnol.blogspot.com comes to mind). So you can have success on either platform.

One consideration. If you think you MIGHT someday want to switch to your own domain, using Wordpress or anything else, you'll probably want to do that as soon as possible. Whenever you switch, you likely will lose some traffic, at least for a while. Adding 301 redirects at the old site well help, but it's definitely not something you want to do AFTER you've got a bunch of traffic.

I would definitely suggest getting your own domain, you can still use blogspot even after getting your own domain. Just in case that your site gets popular, I am sure you will want to own that domain rather than it being blogspot property. Also domain fees are cheap nowadays.

Wordpress is more secure and has more features. '.blogspot' is not a big deal for people reading your website. I do beleive having your own site will index it better though :)

I would just say that with your own wordpress you will have more control over the mods, templates and SEO but not whether professional or not.

No huge, professional blog that is going to make a ton of money is going to be run on Blogspot. Save for a few exceptions, Blogspot is pretty much a good way for beginners to get their feet wet with blogging and running a website. I would definitely recommend getting your own domain name with Blogger or Wordpress. In this day and age, it's basically a necessity.

Wordpress is better for search engine. And blogspot is for earnings from google adsense. So you may make blogs on both site.

Go wordpress now before your blog gets bigger. I know half a dozen blogger friends who switched over from blogger to wordpress and never looked back.

remember blogger blogs can't be sold as per blogspot's rules! so that's another disadvantage.

A lot of people say that blogs get indexed faster then the .com or .net but if you are really going to take care for that site I suggest you to by a top level domain. You will need a lot of time to get PR1 but when you get it...
