My Estimate is that US loses about half a trillion dollars due to pirates . Notice this . - China has 95% software pirated . India has 60% pirated software .

The companies may disagree, but p2p advocates say that little revenue loss occurs due to p2p. Atleast not the kinds of figures that are floated around. You have to take into account the fact that most people who download software, most probably won't buy the cd's anyway.
A trillion? How did you come to that conclusion? I'd think of couple of billions would be right, but a trillion? C'mon..
Ahh but you have to take into account those who would not have bought the cd anyways for example would not be making a living online now creating images, taking business away from those who did buy the product, now those people lost revenue and can not upgrade as often as they normally might.
You know it's a useless talk, whole life i use pirated software, so they will count in each copy of windows in their favor? I mean i would never buy a windows or photoshop for money, if there was no way getting them free, i would use linux and gimp. So i think the actual loss of money is not even near one fifth they say it is. Software named here is just for example
Report suggests that the loss is 12 Billion Dollar , but more than 12 Billion Songs are pirated and that easily exceed the loss @ 100 Billion Dollars . Then There are pirated movies and softwares .
Not every pirated copy would have been bought at full price from a retail store. The maths is a bit more complicated than simple multiplication. It has also been shown that increased p2p activity for songs translates to greater sales. So?
It has been shown when homes are broken into and personal belongings stolen such as a personal computer, sales go up for personal computers because the personal computer needs to be replaced. So?
In India more than 60 percent of the soft ware is pirated. But then they charge enormous prices here for each s/w. Some of them cost half of that of a laptop. Whereas in US when you buy a system from a radio shack or compUSA, most of the s/w comes bundled with it pretty much for no cost or for pennies. Even the systems cost way less in USA compared to India. I bought my gateway laptop 4 years back from USA for $499. That is the equivalent of INR 15500. But even today you can't get a laptop in India for that price with the specifcation, I had four years back. There are some laptops available for that price, but without even a cd drive.
Actually it seems you didn't paid the customs for your laptop . Its all about competition , and prices decline with competition . In India with hardly any competition in Laptop Segment prices are sky high . That is not a good reason for being a pirate .
I used the laptop in US for more than 2 years before coming here. When you move here you can bring all the stuff you were using without paying customs. You have to show them the original receipt to show that you bought it a while back. That is the only requirement. It is true in the case of shirts too. I used to get wrinkle free shirts from Walmart in USA for as low as $5 which is the equivalent of Rs. 195. And when I checked the prices of those same shirts in India, they were starting from a whopping Rs. 800 and up. That is 400% more than the walmart price. Now the funny thing is that those walmart shirts were made in India. Walmart is selling shirts made in India cheaper in USA than Indian shirts are being sold in India. That is kinda ironic.
