What are your thoughts on social bookmarking? DP has closed all threads relating to social media services and exchanges. There must be a valid reason for this. I have a couple of questions on the subject. 1. Does Google frown on this practice so much that they approached DP requesting them to shut down these threads? 2. Is it still a good idea to submit to these SB's? 3. MOST IMPORTANTLY... If you used a service to do this for you and they submitted to 100 SB's over a two day period, do you think Google will penalize you for gaining too many links too quickly? Particularly, from social bookmark sites. Thanks.

Your 3rd question is basically self-explanatory. News spread fast in Internet, people naturally link to the page that is new or original - would be stupid of Google to penalise such a page. Rule # 2: I am not responsible who is linking to me... Unless they all use one and the same anchor on hundreds of websites... but that is a completely different story...
All the responses here make perfect sense but it still begs the question, why has DP ban all social bookmarking from the buy and sell? I know there has been a few scammers offering the service could that be why?
google can't BAN but may give less importance to URLs on SBs to improve it's algorithms and fight to spam.
I think it's even better to submit to social bookmarking sites now that DP has banned them. Overall, there will be quite a bit less spam. DP's decision probably didn't have anything to do with Google or SERP's or anything like that. It was just a smart decision to cut down on the spam.
Most of the social bookmarking pages were spammed by many of these service providers. Its a good step that they have banned the spammers. cheers.
I haven't started to participate in any of the Social Bookmarking sites yet - and yes I intend to - But what is the reason that anyone would participate? It seems to me it is in our best interest to do so. Increased traffic - hopefully increased links. And that's the point I think. These activities would serve Us. Not the group as a whole here at DP. I'm at DP to learn. The posts I read here every day are full of insights, tips and tactics that I don't believe I could find anywhere else. I would imagine DP wants to keep it that way. DP's focus is on the group and how its' presence can benefit the Internet Community. I don't believe it's here to provide us with a means to improve our Social Status so to speak. IMHO anyway
I understand deciosio to close or delete any Digg or Stumble or VCC services but i personally do not see anything wrong in service that offer submitting of links to soc. bookmarking sites. Maybe tomorrow services that offer link submission to directories, writing articles or news will be closed too and then will be time to find some other forum.
