if you have a ECM of $10 per 1K then you would get $1000 per 100k hits. as for how much you would make I don't think much at all I highly doubt its high CTR as the placement of partner ads is poor.
Youtube has a partner program which give you ads money depend on how many viewers you have. You need to be qualified for partnership. To be qualified as a partner, you need to meet some criteria, for examples "create original videos", own the copyrights. "Becoming a partner gives you the ability to share in ad revenue from your YouTube videos."

If you can make original, professional, exciting, attention seeking videos, then Youtube is the gold mine. Many people are making as much as 10000 per month with Youtube. But they make very professional videos with original music and painful work on editing etc.
you won't earn much if your video is not unique and porpular. There are a few guys who make 6 figures a year just by youtube So its really can earn you a lot of money. But only if your video is unique and origional (Like creating your own show)
hah hard work? I don't think RayWilliamJohnson works too hard, he just have to bla bla bla and edit the video and I don't think editing is that hard. The "hard" part I think is finding an idea for making videos. As you said be attractive, original, and funny(it works for almost every kind of videos). Btw just for information RayWilliamJohnson has made with youtube more than $5million for about three years....
I'm sure if you told him that he'd disagree with you. From YOUR perspective he doesn't work hard. In reality you have no idea what he actually does or has had to achieve to get where he is. In your mind he sets up a webcam in his bedroom, records himself for 5 minutes, then shoots off for drinks for the rest of the week. Brilliant!
