Here is an email that is going around on a new way to bring down gas prices. Tell me what you all think.. THIS IS NOT THE 'DON'T BUY' GAS FOR ONE DAY, BUT IT WILL SHOW YOU HOW WE CAN GET GAS BACK DOWN TO $1.30 PER GALLON. This was sent by a retired Coca Cola executive. It came from one of his engineer buddies who retired from Halliburton. If you are tired of the gas prices going up AND they will continue to rise this summer, take time to read this please. Phillip Hollsworth offered this good idea. This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the "don't buy gas on a certain day" campaign that was going around last April or May! It's worth your consideration. Join the resistance!!!! I hear we are going to hit close to $ 4.00 a gallon by next summer and it might go higher!! Want gasoline prices to come down? We need to take some intelligent, united action. The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to "hurt" ourselves by refusing to buy gas. It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them. BUT, whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can Really work. Please read on and join with us! By now you're probably thinking gasoline priced at about $2.00 is super cheap. Me too! It is currently $2.98 for regular unleaded in my town. Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a gallon of gas is CHEAP at $1.50 - $1.75, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the marketplace...not sellers. With the price of gasoline going up more each day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see the price of gas come down is if we hit s omeone in the pocketbook by not purchasing their gas! And, we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves. How? Since we all rely on our cars, we can't just stop buying gas. But we CAN have an impact on gas prices if we all act together to force a price war. Here's the idea: For the rest of this year, DON'T purchase ANY gasoline from the two biggest companies (which now are one), EXXON and MOBIL. If they are not selling any gas, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit. But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of Exxon and Mobil gas buyers. It's really simple to do! Now, don't wimp out on me at this point...keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people!! I am sending this note to 30 people. If each of us send it to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300) .. and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000)...and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth group of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers. If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted! If it goes one level further, you guessed it..... THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!! Again, all you have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all! (If you don't understand how we can reach 300 million and all you have to do is send this t o 10 people.... Well, let's face it, you just aren't a mathematician. But I am . so trust me on this one. How long would all that take? If each of us sends this e-mail out to ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the next 8 days!!! I'll bet you didn't think you and I had that much potential, did you ! Acting together we can make a difference. If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on. I suggest that we not buy from EXXON/MOBIL UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE $2.00 RANGE AND KEEP THEM DOWN. THIS CAN REALLY WORK.
in theory it's great, in practice if everyone stops buying from the two biggest suppliers the other suppliers will simply not have enough gas to sell so where will they get it from? They will buy it from exxon and mobil.
i figure they would until a point.. exxon and mobile may only sell lower than the producers on-site at first, but after they see demand slows down, so too will exxon and mobil's supply, meaning there'd be no reason for the other company's to buy off of a middle man who would price higher than the producers on-site. idk how it works though so don't quote me.
Here's an easier solution. Our government sends a notice to the OPEC countries, saying that we will curtail the flow of food to the same extent that they restrict oil production (thus driving up prices). Let the OPEC price-manipulators eat their sand for a while, and you'll see oil supplies shoot up and per-barrel oil prices dive.
Taking the moral high ground then i see? "give us cheap oil or your children starve" - Why does half the planet hate americans again?
Why should America have to take care of half the planet that hates us? If you ask me America needs to be self sufficient. Put the damn tree huggers in their place and we drill for oil and then we produce our own stuff no more of this outsourcing crap. I say the hell with taking care of the rest of the world. Once all the people in America have shelter and we don't have starving kids here then we worry about the rest of the world.
You don't have to. But to hold back food aid and exports on the grounds that you want to pressure that country in to selling you cheap oil is disgusting and immoral.
The fact these countries are making millions of dollars off of this country and then not taking care of their own people and relying on foreign aid is immoral. You have all these people over there that have millions and the gas prices over there are well under $1.00 and these people can not take care of themselves. There are poor people everywhere. The problem is people that can help the poor generally don't and that is immoral. Rich Americans should take care of poor Americans and rich people in say UAE should take care of poor people in UAE not rely on foreign aid.
"Self sufficiency" is incredibly inefficient - if it were a good idea to limit market options then every household would do its own sewing, agriculture, and education internally. Specialization of individuals and nations is fundamental to the wealth we enjoy in the modern world. I'm not opposed to expanded drilling for environmental reasons, but rather for economic ones. The longer our domestic oil sits in the ground, the more its worth. As long as we can get oil cheaper than half the world pays, we're getting a good deal and holding an appreciating asset.
So two wrongs make a right? it's still immoral to threaten to reduce food exports just because you think you are paying too much for gas.
as usual, it depends who does it. If the US does it then it's for a noble cause and it's good. If somebody else does it then they are murderers
The OPEC countries are somewhat to blame. They should increase production. High gas/oil prices have a negative impact on the world economy, not just the US. But threats aren't the way to go about it.
If you don't sell, someone will, there will always be people willing to profit from this. Also you do not have any grounds to ask for a UN food sanctions, they may pay a bit more or the food, but they can easily rise the price of the oil to compensate.
Use a bicycle..lol.. Seriously, start a boycott to large O&G company..I'm sure the price will lowered down.. And don't regret when there isn't much left to use..
Tax oil prices much higher, this will force the use of alternative fuels as they become viable due to high prices, it is time to wean ourselves out of OPEC oil.
Stop driving. Period. Don't be a slave of oil. Walk or buy a bicycle. If I can do it, you can do it as well. As far as I'm concerned, the price per gallon may rise to $100, I could care less.
Its funny, some people think oil is too expensive, some people think its too cheap. This is where the market comes in and decides that if there are equal numbers of those opinions on each side, the price is juuuust right.
It's not going to work. Lost demand for Exxon gas is a gained demand elsewhere. Besides, as soon as Exxon lowers their price (even just 10 cents below their competition), people will start to buy their gas again.
