I've recently started systematically submitting to all major social bookmarking sites. I've had very mixed results with 3k my best day yesterday, all to a site optimised with adsense, here's the results - 2490 impressions - 0 clicks !! Whats your experience?
You have to be very careful with the social bookmark crowd. They're very educated users that understand the whole "your getting paid if I click on this."
Believe it or not... I have never get any clicks from SB sites. But I have improved my PR from Zero to Four within three months by submitting various SB sites. You can get traffic only rather than revenue fro these sites. Its true in case of SB sites...
Just a question: Did you offer them anything that they were INTERESTED in? That SN crowd is worth BILLIONS and they do respond well to things that they're into - gamez, warez (legal, I'm talkin'), apps, entertainment-related, etc. There are people making MINT off this niche, so maybe do some more research on what they like. A simple suggestion. If this is a known variable, make it an integral part of your optimization tactics.
Good point but, no, other than an entertaining news article..... It's difficult to market to these readers since they are so savvy. PR boosting is probably the only real benefit in general social bookmarking.
If you give them what they want they will click. Also its a volume over quality thing. You get more but less quality usually. Ex. stumbleupon users usually just glance at your site then keep on stumbling if you can't keep them there.
I've consistently submitted my blog post pages to del.icio.us and I've gotten absolutely ZERO traffic from it.
I submit each new blog post to 300 SB sites, and get several bookmarks for a few sites. All the blog post are indexed in google within 10 mins, and all have had decent traffic for the niche. (about 500 views)
It is best to get pagerank increase as well stumbleupon traffic gets converted nice then any other according to my experience
My observation is that when I submit a page on digg, initially I get a flush of junk traffic. After that I get a few traffic through digg's search feature. These traffic is normally good traffic and converts well. Also sometimes digg's page gets higher SERP ranking than it's original page. So few traffic also goes to digg's page first through SEs and then come to original page from digg page. Such traffic is also good. Similar phenomenon also happens on StumbleUpon.
The fact is that your post should be useful to visitors and in the relevant category if you really want genuine visitors from social bookmarking sites.
Consider to generate voting for your story by writing quality post and involving yourself in the user groups in particular S.N site.
Yeah, I think if there's nothing really relevant to the users going to your site, why would they even click on your ads? I'm sure those people only stayed on your site for a very short time too, right? But I've gotten some good results from Social Media and Bookmarking Sites and they have also clicked on a few of my ads as well. So my question is, what was your article about that you were submitting to all these Social Bookmarking sites?
The PR boost is one thing that you should consider when social bookmarking. I've heard that a front page story on Digg gets a dofollow link, which could be rather valuable considering Digg's PR. Does anyone have any data to show an increase in traffic or SERPs in the weeks/months following a Digg front page story?
