    AJ,
I'd like to extend my gratitude to you by starting this thread. I took some of your advice and went with my gut feeling on a campaign I started (no everyone, it's not ringtones).

A few days ago, you gave me some advice in this thread and I took it. I also started to analyze my LP and my ads. Made some tweaks to the ads and added a little more text content to the LP under the fold complete with outbound links to highly ranked sites with authority on the subject.

I am excited to report I am getting twenty times the impressions, with a overall CTR of 0.13% with one ad group boasting close to a 0.6% CTR.... all this while getting an overall CPC today of 8 cents with some as low as 5 cents.

Based on my conversion numbers, this should put me barely into the profitable zone. I am now eyeballing a similar, higher paying offer on another network to replace this one to push me into profitability. Once I can accomplish that, I am going to trim some weaker ad groups, and Scale, Scale, Scale!

My day job requires me to travel a lot. Once I get back up your way, I'll owe you dinner.

    Thanks Bro.

Google does have a quality score on the content network folks.

Although I should just keep my mouth shut and let all the noobs keep throwing thousands of keywords into adgroups :)

Not sure I entirely believe that.

Google seems nearly full of crap with this statement:
"Your keyword's Quality Score is based on the relevance of the ad and keywords to a content site, your ad's performance history on the site and similar sites, and the quality of your ad's landing page."

    This example disproves that theory.

    Hey AJ,

    You said:
"3 years, 275 failed campaigns, dozens of landing pages, thousands of man hours of research and PPC tweaking"

I read roughly 25 pages of this thread about a week ago, and I hadn't seen any questions I'm about to ask. I'd PM you, but I know you probably get a lot of PM's, and your response may be valuable to everyone, or someone else with these same questions.

I'll use numbers so it's easier to respond.

    1. I know you had mentioned after the screen shot, it wasn't until August 07 that you started working 12-16 hours per day on this to make it work. Before then, can you give us a ballpark figure of how much time you were putting into this?

    2. You also said that was about the time you joined Azoogle. Do you attribute your earnings partly on being an Azoogle affiliate? And, do you think you could match, or come close to your current daily/monthly earnings with another company such as Clickbank, or CJ?

    3. Why did you suddenly start working so many hours per day? Was it because you just got fedup with not succeeding as much as you'd like, and you had a huge urge to just "do it" this time?

    4. Were you as serious about becoming successful with A.M. back then, as you are now? And, was the only difference between back then, and now that you decided to do it this time?

    5. I'm "guessing" that when you relate the 12-16 hour days, to your earnings, do you also attribute your success partly on the time you spent in the past 6 months researching everything?

    6. Are you happy?

Sorry for so many questions. I'm a very curious person, and I love talking to people who are in a similar place to where I would like to be. I think the main thing that is going through my mind is "does it have to take THAT long to be where you are" - could people such as myself put as much time, effort, and research into A.M as you did the past 6 months, and be where you are? Or, do you think the majority of that 3 years, even though failing, is related to your success in the fact that you gained 3 years of experiencing doing everything?

Thanks so much for taking the time to answer these ?'s.

    Ryan

Well duh, of course Google isn't going to just come out and tell you that quality doesn't matter on the content network. They say that to protect themselves.

Go run some of your own ads on the content network and see for yourself how little quality matters.

I don't think they have a quality score. On one of my ad groups it took 300,000 impressions to get 14 clicks.

When Quality Score hits you on the Content Network you'll know it, cause your campaign will get killed a will no longer get impressions. You don't have to play cat and mouse with Search Quality Score and watching your keywords bounce around from Poor to Great every day.

I'm hoping that the 275 failed campaigns came before he found this particular 'system'.

    1. I was working at least 4-8 hours a day, reading a lot, launching small campaigns. My previous efforts were on Clickbank.

    2. I would never go back to ClickBank and CJ I really have no interest in at the moment. I like the generation 2.0 type CPA networks like Azoogle, CPAE, Neverblueads, although Azoogle gets 98% of my traffic.

    3. I had just finished an internship on Wall Street, working at one of the top firms. I realized that I did not want to be a corporate drone. I also realized why should I spend 60 hours a week commuting and working to put money in someone else's pockets when I could be putting it my own.

    4. Same as 3, had more time, more motivation.

    5. Definetly. I read everything on this forum from page 1, as well as on WickedFire from page 1. But there comes a time when you need to stop reading and start dumping money in.

    6. Absolutely. I'm starting a full-time job (NOT Wall St) this summer, and plan to continue to do affiliate marketing part time on the side. I find it very fun. I promised myself that if I could go 12 months making $25k PROFIT a month, I can quit my full time job I have yet to begin. 2 months down, 10 to go.

In addition, I have a check made out to myself for $1,000,000 with a date sometime in the future written on it as a goal. Some good motivation.

    Thanks for the q's.

$25k a month? Considering like 90% of the US makes under 10k a month, I would gladly quit my job if I make even 6k a month consistently - and live very comfortably.

    aj,

Do you use the 'scheduling' feature in AdWords, or do you just let your campaigns run non-stop?

    Quick question guys

Does CTR matter on content network if everything is placement targeted?

I want enough in the bank so that if I have a couple bad months it wouldn't be a problem whatsoever.

Not yet, Greg. I'm starting some new campaigns that I have high hopes for, however.

Holy crap. I might be onto something here.

    So far today...

    100 clicks

25 people went from my landing page to the 'offer page'

    2 leads genereated

    Total spent = $6.09

    Earnings = $30.00

    Profit = $23.91 so far! :D

As Curly said in 'City Slickers'...

    "Day ain't over yet."
