How many Backlinks should an average site should have?

    Google loves backlinks with the same keywords and high PR
    on all the keywords I rank #1 for I have at least 1000 backlinks using that keyword, 1 has over 5000 to rank #1. That said I may have done it with less if the backlinks had all come from high PR sites.

    I believe that a backlink from a PR 0 counts as a link and that a backlink from PR8 counts as around 500. No basis for this, just what I have seen.

    Yahoo and MSN dont care about PR thats a Google thing so they just like lots of backlinks from related sites.

    I can't see where a specific number of links matters...just as long as you always have more relevant links than your closest competitors
