Here is a story about what happens if you refuse to sell "your" house to those who really own it. Reminded me of that guy (Hoxley or what's his name) who was driven out of business after he refused to sell his cancer cure to the FDA commissioner. Mon Commission upholds tax increase MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) -- The Monongalia County Commission says they've found nothing wrong with a property owner's 1,531 percent tax increase. By The Associated Press MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) -- The Monongalia County Commission says they've found nothing wrong with a property owner's 1,531 percent tax increase. Morgantown property owner Jim Jones filed a complaint with the commission because his property taxes increased from $285.90 to $4,663.44 after he refused to sell his property to Chief Deputy Assessor Bill Perry. County Assessor Rodney Pyles says the property was reclassified as part of a routine audit, resulting in a tax hike. But Jones says it was retaliation. Jones can appeal his complaint to the Monongalia County Circuit Court, and says he is considering it.
I'd do more than consider it , mind you if it was an audit and found that the rates had not risen with all the tax inflation and increases .... then it might have been over looked and needed adjustment. Cause i don't know any body that has rates that low anymore.
Cities can take away your property due to the 2005 eminent domain ruling. The decision was reached 5 to 4. Stevens, Stephen Breyer, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, David Souter and Anthony Kennedy were in the majority. Chief Justice William Rehnquist, and justices Antonin Scalia and Clarence Thomas joined O'Connor's opposed. The court needs more guys like Antonin Scalia and Clarence Thomas, not the idiots that Obama or Clinton would appoint. http://www.cnn.com/2005/LAW/06/24/scotus.property/
