Is 1on40.com a scam or for real?

I joined this site 1on40 (dot) com, and it looks promising, but I have not had anyone tell me one way or another if it is real. I am an affiliate, and it converts well, but they are not based in the US, and it just "Seems Sketchy" at best. Anyone know for sure??

Has it converted well for you and have you made any money with it? That's probably the best way to tell, especially if you've already joined it. I got the info but haven't done anything with it. Let me know how it turns out.

Scam... They promise the impossible and you have to wait a long time before you may see results in which time the fleece you then do a runner.

This is of course just my personal opinion

I do not think you are going to get anyone to say it is definately a scam because the website gave themselves a 120 day grace period.

My opinion is that it is a scam and I think that the people that are promoting it without actually using it are doing a disservice to people by taking their money for the scam.

Getting top keyword positions is not as easy as a gimmick and if they do indeed have the technology to do this why don't they use the same technology to catapult their own website to the top of google for seo or another high traffic keyword and keep all of the profits instead of using affiliates to sell smoke and mirrors.

    They have no verifiable testimonials.

There own website source code for keywords is

"1on40, free, seo, submitter, top google, top yahoo, submission service, top search engine result, guaranteed, number one google, first result yahoo, earn cash, affiliate, sales traffic, easy, fast, keyword, best."

Does that look like someone that knows anything about seo. I don't think so. what they are going to take over the keyword of "free", give me a break.

I think you are smearing your own reputation by advertising it.

    Haha are you serious??

So they can get your site in top position 'magically' for any keyword but they are shit at seoing there own site

I am really new to all of this and have only had a domain name for barely two months. I have signed up for 1on40 and one of the reasons I did is because they don't ask for any type of billing information so I fiqured I had nothing to lose. Before I signed up with them, I could type in my domain name in Google, Yahoo, MSN and so on...and the search would always come back, website could not be found. About 4 days after registering, I googled my domain name and it was found, same for yahoo. Now I can't say for sure if it was because of 1on40; I just know that I had no luck before.

Users earn credits for everyone they refer and sign up. After someone is ranked #1 then you can use your credits to bid on key words or you can hold your credits and bid/pay for keywords outright. The other advantage to the credits is that after they Beta period they will also count towards shares in the company. As it stands now, each share is worth $180.00.

Some have said they have a good conversion with this. I haven't had so much luck. Any suggestions?

Im just using banners, but I am even stopping doing that, conversions or not, if it is not going to pay me on them (they say $40 a lead) why would I? I looked at scams.com and no one said they were or wernt, but it seems unlikley as it would have to happen by "Magic" as shafty had stated.

1on40 is a scam and NO ONE anywhere has made a dime from these people!
Those of us that have put in time with this company, if you can call it a company, know that it's a scam.
Credits were suppose to be released yesterday April 28th along with info on how to cash in on those credits,
did 1on40 release the credits?, (NO).
When asked about the release of credits I got a email the next day saying that we should read the backoffice news for the 28th of May, but that insert that is dated 19th March 2008 - Part 1
has nothing to do with the release of credits, only the end of beta testing, this is what it says from insert dated 19th March 2008 - part 2, DOUBLE CREDITS & AFFILIATE CASH
We are doubling your credits for anyone you refer as a client and also for every affiliate you refer into 1on40.

Now you get 2 credits for each referral you make… And 2 for every client.

Credits are being released to all affiliates on April 28th. You will be alerted to how to claim your credits here in the news section on 28th April 2008. Please log in regularly each week for updates to this release date and how to collect and usage.
Now it clearly says that all credits will be released.
They don't know what's in their own back office news!
Yes people it's a scam,,,,move on, I had over 1,600 credits, worth around $350,000 dollars, if we go by their promise of pay for credits,,,,SORRY IF YOU GOT SCAMMED BUT IF IT MAKES YOU FEEL BETTER, A LOT DID!!!! I WILL HUNT THESE PEOPLE DOWN, IT MIGHT TAKE TIME, BUT I WILL FIND THEM,,ANYONE WANT TO JOIN IN THE HUNT POST HERE,

I'm not sure I entirely understand - did you actually pay money to this people - or is just that you expected some kind of payout and it's not happened?
If it's the latter *shrugs* then I don't really think you can say you've been scammed. The whole thing looked dodgy from the start, and you've lost nothing but some time and your patience, and learnt a valuable lesson.

Sorry to hear that. I joined 1 on 40 thinking that what they were offering was darn near impossible but I figured what the heck. It didn't cost anything so I had nothing to lose. As soon as I signed up and read where you have to pay to maintain your spot at the top I realized that it was false advertising to say the least. I don't think they ever had any intention of placing your site at the top of any keyword on any search engine for free. I'm not sure if they're even doing it for people that pay. But any ways, I knew it was a scam from the start and fortunately I didn't invest any money or any time promoting the program.

Most any domain can be found by googling the 'dotcom' itself. If your site is a Food blog, did you google 'food' and have it show up? That's how you find out is your seo is any good.
