    Hi,

My question is, if you use different wordpress themes, will it affect your SERPs?

    I'm interested to know.

    Thanks,
    Jake.

Yes, definently. Because they are all coded differently, some are more search engine friendly then others. Also, if the theme is sponsored by a bad website, then that can hurt also.

    Yes, it can.

I've seen themes where the code is very, very sloppily written. For example, there would be many <h1> tags, and just all around sloppy coding.

This will have an effect on your SERPs.

Avoid themes that have a lot of header garbage for the search engine to sift through. Also, themes with a right hand navigation bar are more favorable because they present the content up front when a page is being spidered.

Can't agree more than this. Some themes are extremely well coded for SEO purposes. I suggest you cut out all the noise in your design, and focus on the content for your site to do well in SERPS

    True.

Not necessarily true. Using CSS, that same sidebar could be on the left side as easily as it's on the right. Not only that, but the benefit gained would be minimal at best anyway, unless the links in the sidebar were the size of an Nimitz class aircraft carrier, in which case the blog/site in question would have far bigger problems to worry about.
