Hi guys, i am wondering as i know duplicate content is considered wrong for SEO and Google tends to penalize websites that display duplicated content on their website. However i am wondering if you were to put an article that had been written by someone else and already posted on to a website and submit it to an article directory with a link to your own website. Which if any would be penalized, is the article directory penalized for having duplicated content on their own website, or is the website that the person submitted along with the duplicated content's website penalized? Just a random question i would like answering. Also does it matter if you put on the article that you declare that it is duplicated? Will
Now, I've heard that it's duplicate no matter what, and I've also heard that as long as you are the original author putting it up, it doesn't matter. I would really like to get this matter resolved as well. thanks for the thread.
I've heard two things. I've heard the duplicate content penalty is real, and then I have heard that it is a myth. I really have no idea what to think. And if the duplicate content penalty is a real thing, how does it work? Who knows then what site has the "real" and "original" content?
Noone would get penalized imho. If Google trusts the directory and your website is very new - there's a chance that you appear AFTER that directory in serps. But there's no penalty I'm pretty sure. Article directories are doing good and there're plenty of websites relying on this method of link development: from what I see - they're doing ok as well.
The duplicate content penalty is a total myth. When you submit an article to an article directory you are planning for duplicate content because you are hoping ezine editors pick up your article for inclusion in their ezine. If 5 editors do this, then you've got duplicate content on the web. Google knows this. Besides, article marketing isn't about getting a high ranking in Google. It's about getting traffic to your website because readers click your link the resources box. In that scenario, the more copies of your article are out on the web, the better. Google really has better things to do than to keep track of how many copies of your article are out on the web. Now, if your article would indeed rank well in the search, then Google would recognize duplicates and instead of showing three entries for your article, they would eliminate the duplicates and only show one. But that's not a penalty. That's just their across the board policy in their listings. You will hurt yourself more by not distributing your article as wide as you can than you would get hurt by any "alleged" duplicate content penalty.
This is a big question mark........We do article submission to bunch of sites, but not getting the benefit we should get...
Great insight on this thread guys! I am currently doing an article marketing experiment along these lines...and while Google will not penalize your duplicate content...certain article directories will For example, ezinearticles.com IMO is the best article directory to submit to. They are also the most difficult to submit to. Don't take that the wrong way...its a good thing. The articles get read there and ezine publishers pick them up. What I mean is that ezine will suspend your account in 10 seconds flat for not submitting original content. They did it to me, and I re wrote a PLR article. It was still similar to the original and someone had it posted online, ezinearticles caught me right away and suspended me. I played nice and got my account re opened. eZine will also not stand for key word spamming...I always screw up and it delays the publishing of my articles because I have to go in, eliminate the keywords, and re submit. I have had some other problems because I am submitting duplicate content. On the other hand, I am testing the theory of duplicate content submitted by the author. I am curious to see that if I submit the same article to every directory really hurts me or helps me. I am also doing an experiment using a paid service that helps make each article "unique enough" at each directory. I am finding very good success using article directories and writing articles...but I am finding that only a handful of sites are worth the effort, the articles need to be completely unique (either written by you or written for you), and the jury is still out on the paid service I set up a website that I update in case anyone is curious http://www.listbuildingtips.info FYI- The original idea of mine was to get more subscribers to my newsletter. I run an eBook selling newsletter.
I fully agree with that. There is nothing like a penalty for having duplicate content. However, it is difficult to rank with duplicate content because Google displays just one copy from all duplicate copies. You cannot submit someone else's article to an article directory. If the article directory detects it (or somebody reports it), your account will be deleted immediately.
Ezine is so sensitive. I submitted several articles some using my first and last name and the other using my middle name and double barrelled last name under which I practice in my profession because those were articles relation to my profession and the others more parenting related stuff. I did this at first with no problem then Ezine wrote me telling me to add the alternate author name to another professional article which I submitted. They accepted it and even emailed me to say all was fine until today I went to submit an article and lo and behold I got this: Your account has been suspended from future submissions due to an invalid author name. This means you will not be able to submit any new articles until your account is restored to good-standing. Please review our Editorial Guidelines and contact us with the new author name you would like to use So I wrote to them today rehashing the whole thing and copying previous emails. My fault for hanging on to my maiden name but I am one and the same person. Will let you know if my account gets re-instated. http://ceomum.blogspot.com http://leavethebar.blogspot.com
