    Hi,
It seems google dont have control over their own directory. It has dropped to pr7 from pr8 while dmoz is still pr8 .

Google depends mightily on its reputation. I suspect that Google applies its algorithms to itself just as strictly as it does to other sites.

So? I doubt they care about their PR. It was natural....I doubt it was done on purpose.

may be there is a BUG in the Google's own algorithm that caused a drop in the PR for their own directory.
just kidding ... I think only Google guys can answer that.

Google just got to do some thing with "Directory" word and has set something to decrease the PR of all the directories having that word, may that be their own Google Directory too ;)

    I wouldn't be surprised.

Maybe someone should do a redirect to it and see what the results are...

Does google directory passes PR? It seems yes. So they are violating google's tos. But who will penalize them.............? Themselves?

This is the worst form of hypocrisy. Not expected from such a big concern like them. :(

Very good points here, I agree 100%. But they are not going to scare me away from the directory business.

oh yea, and lets not forget even MORE duplicate Gaygle directories, but with a hint of redirecting: http://www.google.com/dirhp

(according to matt cutts, redirecting is a huge no no)
look at where http://www.google.com/dirhp REDIRECTS to... check the categoires

So, not only is it violating their own toss, but its also maintained its PR of7, all the while its redirecting and duplicating.

    funny stuff. very funny stuff.

    1. It passes PR.
    2. Its using redirection.
    3. It has duplicate content.

    Anything else?

I'll tell it as it is:

    G Directory is horse shit.

I'm actually quite surprised Matt Cutts didn't jump at the chance to manually manipulate the PR rankings and raise it back up to PR23.5
