Googlebot has visited the login page on one of my site 2,158 times over the past three days. Why whould it keep hitting a login page over and over.

    Thanks.

Block it via robots.txt and\or using the robots meta tag.

Your login page will be cached and occurred in SERPs. If you do not want to hit or cache, block it via robots.txt.

Why do you worry about it ? is there anything wrong in your login page. Let google do its work but if you have problem with bandwith then definitely you can block it via robot.txt unless there is no need to block it, ultimately you will be listed soon and crawl freqently.
