From 2000 to 2006, I joined in around 30 forums (moneymaking and HYIP forums) and accumulated thousands of posts in each forum username.

On the middle of 2007, someone from TG forum asking to buy forum usernames... I know it is not good to buy and sell usernames so I did not sell mine on the first place..

I think several times, checked my accounts, edit some personal profiles and contacted the buyer...

I had an exact 27 active accounts on active forums.. As I remember, the only account I did not sell is my account in sitepoint and TG ( I was not a member of DP yet)...

I had around 67,000 posts in those 27 usernames including 4 moderator accounts... the buyer from hong kong paid me $4,700.

Do you think I did wrong? I need money that time and had no time to maintain those accounts anymore so instead of abandoning, I converted it into money... I did never contacted the buyer after we exchanged and he did never contacted me as well..

Just to share with you what I did... :(

I don't think you've done anything wrong especially if you are sure that the buyers is using your account authentically with same spirit. :)

Well the only thing I would have been worried about is the new owner ruining your past reputation. Beyond that, a good sale I must say!

As I said, my reputation is not included when he purchased my whole package... the guy used my usernames in advertising their new company... an online legal consulting company..

As previously mentioned, if the new owner decides to go scamming people with your "trusted" accounts then its kind of like you let it happen and now you have to live with it. No telling what the new owner is going to do though. Could just be using it for signature links.

The only thing that would concern me, is what he would be using the accounts for.. it would be pretty easy to ruin someones reputation overnight..

If I got 4.7 grand for some forum accounts I wouldn't really care about what they did with my reputation.
The beauty of the internet is that you can just make another account with another name.

If your username doesn't contain your name or anything that points to you personally, how can it ruin your reputation..?

see we all are invisible .in a way..

now, you could have changed your contact details (email etc) before passing on the accounts just to be sure.

if you have done so . then good job!

:( Silly IMHO. Al the hiding and running. Giving away your rep and just starting over with a new ID. Unethical, IMHO.:(

    Sad even.

I did not created those accounts for that reason..those accounts were mine and used personally..it's just happened that some was interested and I was not using those accounts anymore... they were not created for the reason as what you are thinking...they were created for personal use and not for sale..
    Yeah, that's what I did..
