So I was just checking MY sites backlinks, and one of my competitors site backlinks... It turns out that I have way more backlinks that they do, and I also have more pages indexed than them. Yet my web site's pagerank is a measly 0 while theirs is a 2. Why is that? I have the following: Yahoo 278 All the Web 308 Altavista 320 They have: Yahoo 123 All the Web 138 Altavista 138 So how is it possible that their rank is greater than mine? Note that I didn't just check the backlinks in one website, I checked it in many of them and all of them told me that my backlinks are greater than theirs.
It is not only depends on how many backlinks your site owns, but also depends on the quality of the backlinks, are you sure your backlinks are from high quality while there is not.
Germz, let me impart a little something I learned the hard way awhile ago: don't focus on PageRank. It will take care of itself. Instead, make sure you are managing a good Website, and looking for quality ways to get visitors to it. If you take care of these two things, a good PageRank will come. Also, keep in mind that the Toolbar PageRank is not the same internal PageRank Google uses - some even argue it's completely worthless! (So this is another good reason to not focus on it entirely.)
Oh... thanks! I didn't know the quality of the backlinks counted. Well I searched again and I have different backlinks from 15 different sites, their qualities are good (good PR as well about 10 of them are good the other are just normal sites) and my compteticion has 16 different websites with backlinks, with just less backlinks. Thanks. I will try to make my site as user friendly as possible. And I'm not using the toolbar, I use a firefox plug in called "SEO" i also use online services to check for page rank. Thanks.
Right, I have the same add-on. But that's still the Toolbar PR. The real PageRank is something that Google does not release.
Pagerank doesn't generate traffic, SERPs are what actually drive organic traffic to your website. You should be worried about your SERPs and not your Pagerank. Pagerank is one of many factors used to determine search results. If you look at most search results 9 times out of 10 a listing will have a higher Pagerank than the #1 result.
Thanks, but I'm basically in no search results other than www.thegermz.com lmao. Google doesn't like me. I have keywords in like every page of my site and i'm just not getting clicks from google. Other than images... which is weird since I don't upload images.
DONT WORRY ABOUT YOUR PAGERANK! Just continue to get backlinks, remember, Pagerank is irrelevant because there isnt a frequent update.
Dude...Google just bitch slapped me, and my blog went from a PR 4, where it was for the last year, to a PR 0. It took me all of a day to get over it, and put another site online. It didn't affect my traffic..I still place the same in the SERP's...Long Tail searches are still kicking ass. The moral to the story....PR will not stop you from making money, crappy content will.
The SERPs are what is most important, and which will ultimately drive traffic and visitors to your site. PR is important to many, though it only plays part of the overall role of determining how your site ranks in the search engines.
For a keyword, my site is in 800+ position in search results. Number of backlinks are more than 8000. PR=2 The page that is on the top, has Zero backlinks PR=0
