Please Explain - PR Went Up and Given -50 Penalty !

Guy I am confused about what Doogle is doing.

My site used to be PR3, then in December 07 it went to PR 4 and was then hit with the -50 Peanalty. I tried to figure out what the -50 Penalty was all about and all I found was that it might have something to do with the sites Link Profile.

But if they didnt like my Backlinks then how come my PR didn't go down?
NOW, my PR has gone up again to PR5 in yesterdays update !!!!

How come they keep increasing my PR but I still have a -50 Peanlty on my site, It doesn't even rank for its own domain name !!

I mean Doogle has PR Bar for visitors to show them how much they trust a site and so they show mine as PR5 now but they penalize the serps for the site!!

Can somebody make any sense of this ?

lol... I call Google .... Doodle

And they call it a -50 Penalty cause all your serps get pushed down by 50 spots. I used to be 5 now I am 55

They also call it the -60 Penalty.

But I just dont get it, how to get out, people say to get trid of any back links the Doogle might think are un-natural etc.

-50 penalty is just something webmasters made up on their own if you ask me, Pagerank can raise why search results position can drop. What is Doogle?

well I can understand if a site loses rankings bacuse its backlinks lost value or many other reasons, BUT if a 9 year old site with original content all of a sudden stops ranking for its own name, then most likely it is a penalty.

It can be 100 % only if Google tells us, but it wont, so we have to do something about our sites when it gets affected in ways that dont make sense.

Been there - eventually re-wrote the whole site; never found out the cause; did re-inclusion request and within hours back on page 1.
Very frustrating - would love to know the issue(s) but G does not respond when you try to contact them. I suspect they are trying to protect themselves from the "spammers" & worse

    I guess I am screwed :(

The only thing I can do is try to undo anything that google might think is violating guidelines and hope that the filter gets taken off. If it is auto-filter penalty.

So I guess I'l give it 2 more months and see if my PR5 site gets back to normal and if not I'l try to fix anything I can think of wrong and then just wait and see.

I suggest you wait for few days, may be your site will get back old search result place or even can rank higher.

You should know that there is some flux on Google results now. You may check by use this tool first to see if your ranking is down across Google DC's.

Proxy Hijack is another case like someone mentioned before. You may find solution at the solution of google proxy hijack. Check carefully to see if proxy page has override your site position.

Another case is about "bad neighborhood linking". Please check if your site is currently linking to a site which is banned/penalized/junky type. You can control who you are linking to and this type of penalized is common.

:) hope this help and as ssandecki said, most of this type of penalty is upon the factor that webmaster can control.

I think you no need to care too much about the penalty, as long as your PR is gaining each new update...:)
