if I offer a service and use <embed>, will search engines index those backlinks? something like this, <embed src="http://www.metrolyrics.com/scroller/scroller2.swf?lyricid=2147458886&border=2&bordert=80&bgfont=0xC0C0C0&bg=http://www.metrolyrics.com/scroller/bgpic/bluedisco.jpg&filter=0x000000&filtert=25&txt=0xFFFFFF&fontname=arial&fontsize=11&speed=2" quality="high" width="180" height="210" name="scroll" align="middle" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" /><br /><a href="http://www.metrolyrics.com/comin-to-see-you-lyrics-tyrese.html" title="Comin To See You Lyrics">Comin To See You Lyrics</a></embed> Code (markup): would that help create backlinks to my site if I were to use something like that?
Do you have an example page I can view this on? I want to test something to see if it is a viable backlink source. I'll run it through a GoogleBot spoofer and see if it can pull the URL or not. You might be better off having a hyperlink text displayed below the code, perhapes even using revolving anchor texts to help boost you on multiple keywords using SSI includes.
I ment a live working page, but I just did it myself. Yes this provides an actually backlink equivalent to the standard hyperlinks and should provide the same SEO value. It also inserts the URL when using a screen reader and\or text browser. This should be good for building backlinks, worst case senario is you alter the code and insert the hyperlink after the embed code, but this way you should get less people altering the code.
well yes, I know it will appear, but if you use javascript, it will appear too -- but it won't count as a backlink. I'm trying to figure out if <embed> is treated the same as <javascript> or how exactly <embed> is treated. thanks
It is not treated the same, do a test with a Googlebot spoofer and you'll see the link is still inserted into the mix, like I said it produces a valid hyperlink html code into the rendered html.
Awesome! Looks to be correct! http://www.seochat.com/seo-tools/spider-simulator/ I finally got it tested through that, both with javascript links and embed links the page I tested. Great, thanks!
i think it's a hidden link. a link which is not going to be seen by users. i dont think that may help your seo.
The link is visible in GUI browsers and text browsers, throw the code in a test.html file on your desktop and open it.
