"If it is found that a) the material would be classified R18+ or X18+, and the site does not have an adult verification system, or b) the material would be refused classification: * If the site is hosted in Australia, the ACMA is empowered to issue a “takedown notice†under which the material must be removed from the site. * If the site is hosted outside Australia, the site is added to a list of banned sites." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Censorship_in_Australia The gov can take down your website if it's hosted in Australia or ban it if it's external. I certainly hope the filtering is limited to child porn and snuff, I don't want random websites being blocked at ISP level.
As far asI know, hosting adult sites in Australia is not allowed. But there is nothing wrong in promoting other adult sponsors if your site is hosted outside Australia. By the way, why is government keen on filitering (legal)adult sites while you still have adult stores where you sell adult movies and sex toys to public?
Because the government is dumb. The previous government was offering free internet filtering software for interested parents, which I think is a far better idea than ISP based censorship...
Man.. I hate those ads "This is the sound of your child researching geography... this is the sound of your child finding pornography"... argh. And oh, the Howard govt's plan for internet filtering failed big time. Read last week's The Australian (IT section) Curiously, whereabouts brissy are you in?
Graceville, west Brisbane. It's just that I don't like the idea of internet censorship, I would prefer any alternative.
live-cms, How is the climate at Brisbane? What is the weekly earnings and spending of an average man in Brisbane? Hope the highspeed internet is not expensive in Brisbane.
Have you considered New Zealand? It is right next to Australia and the economy is stable. I am located in the Bahamas and want to go move to Australia/New Zealand, I found this thread informative and I hope to learn more! I am not worried about income as I have enough to move in any place in the world including Singapore, so cost of living isn’t a concern right now
New Zealand is a nice place, but colder I guess. If you are an American you are welcome in most countries. Being an Asian it is not easy for me move to any country like wish. It's not only the money but also VISA regulations, goverment rules etc. Austrlia is promoting migration and it was for me to get to Australia compared to NZ. Now I have time till the mid of 2008 to go to Australia and settle down. It's big change for me. So before I do that I just need to make sure I am taking the right decision. All the suggestions and opinions are highly appreciated.
Warm and sunny. No idea what the average income/expenses are. My 1.5mb/s, 12GB transfer connection costs $70 per month.
True, this might be able to be done now. But not for much longer. To say the government will not be cracking down is not a wise statement. All I can say is "watch this space"!
Dude. Time to swtich to TPG Super. 24mbps (well, in my place near CBD its throughput is quite high), and 150GB bandwidth all for the single low cost of 69.90 And it was raining for the better part of this week. LOL
As far as I know, Any internet filtering plans by our government will be for protecting our kids from pornography, not restricting legal aged adults from accessing websites that contain adult content, and I think its a good idea, the rest of the world should take note. And for making cents, the award rate for say a cleaner in aus. is about $12 an hour, an unskilled laborer may get $16/hr, some tradesmen on wages get only $18/hr, but professionals incomes are much higher making the average wage a lot higher than what the average joe could ever expect.
Professionals may charge $100/hour for services or $300/hour for contract work, depends on the industry. That's obviously not an average wage, but something to note. The filtering will happen to everyone through all Australian ISPs...you have to opt-out to not have your internet filtered. I prefer the idea of free filtering software for interested parents.
Cybro, Thanks for the info. Infact I am not trying to calculate the average income of an Aussie. I am trying to find out the income and expense of an average joe! By the way, I have no intention to shoot porn or become a porn star. I am just running few adult rated sites along with my mainstream ones. If the Australian government starts enforcing on ISP level filters, then there are always proxies. But if they enforce ISP level filtering your connection speeds will be much slower. You sell porn on streets (adult shops) and filter the stuff on internet.
For a student - http://www.unisa.edu.au/international/Adelaide/living.asp#Cost TOTAL WEEKLY EXPENSES $225 - $445 TOTAL YEARLY (52 WEEKS) EXPENSES $11,700 - $23,140
Thanks! From the website you have mentioned: Water costs almost double than Milk? You Aussies must be drinking milk always instead of water. LOL!
