What's the best Photoshop tutorial site for absolute beginners? Pretend I don't even know what a layer is. -or- Should I just go out and get a Dummys book?
Most tutorial conglomeration sites have a 'beginner' or equivalent section. Check out the Basics of Good-tutorials: http://www.good-tutorials.com/tutorials/photoshop/basics If I may give a plug - my site does have a few tutorials aimed at beginners, most of them are (hopefully) easy to follow since I basically include an image for every step. I don't go so far as to telling you what a layer is, but I point out all the tools you need to use and what buttons you need to press: http://www.mintyferret.com If you were looking for any specific tutorials give me a shout and I'll see what I can do!
www.photoshop-tutorials.info : it is filled with really nice tutorials that are easy to follow for beginners, you don't have to make things that looks like they're from beginners
Thanks for all your references. I was looking at some of these sites and started playing with the tutorials. I came across a site that told me to use the "elliptical selection tool". I could not find anything by that name in my version of Photoshop (version 8 or 'CS'). Does Photoshop change the names of their tools in different versions by any chance? (I checked all the included help files too).
Press and hold the marquee tool and a flyout will pop up and then chose the elliptical tool. I also have some video tutorials on my blog you should check out.
