I suggest buying links or banner placement in the appropriate links. I think you will get alot of members from that

Marketing forums is or can be one of the hardest tasks, i would say it is much harder than marketing a website however some of the strategies in place for marketing a website can be used to market a forum.

If your not willing to pay any money for marketing i would suggest perhaps trying to do link exchanges with websites in the same market.

SEO would not really be that important, also SEO comes when your forum is up and running from the actual users, great thing about forums.

Other ways is Yahoo answers and Yahoo/ Google Groups.

Perhaps find were your target market 'hang out' so to speak, try getting links on these websites or just add comments

    Thanks, good luck.

ummmmm....... participate in a forum and keep participating to the point where you have some authority. then people will have more respect for you which means that people will more likely become apart of your forum.

I see people use contests for posting to get new members and post. just make sure prize is something people on that forum would want.

    Hey Webcosmo,

Here's a few ideas to add:

    1. There are directories of forums that you can have your site added to, either by paying or submitting.

    2. I'd make the first priority to get your users posting as much as possible because the more active your forum is, the more attractive and valuable it is to new members. Furthermore, if it's a free forum, the more threads and posts you have, the more content so to speak, the more traffic you'll generate from those pages getting listed in the SE's.

To get more people posting you might consider running some kind of competition, or doing some important polls (that would encourage people to share their opionion) etc

    3. Post lots of great content of your own (if it's that kind of forum) - we all know that the best content attracts the most links and hence generates more traffic.

    4. If you have the extra cash to throw around, it might be worth taking out an ad on a blog or in a targetted ezine to give your forum that kickstart it needs.

    Hope that helps anyway :)

    Andrew
