iam wondering why do people is Illustrator for logos than photoshop? i use photoshop to make my logos cause i know the application alot better.
If you design something in Illustrator it will be a vector and vectors can be enlarged without getting jagged edges.
What he said ^ . But what I have noticed lately is that people are using FireWorks a bit more. Which I am loving! Fireworks is so much better compared to photoshop for graphics. I hate PS for graphics work. I only use it for editing actual photos.
really? i never tried fireworks and ps seems fine to me... ill may want to get a evaluation before buying. Thanks for the tips tho.
I think it's a matter of preference. I personally liked to work with vector based graphics softwares so that I can enlarge without making the images jagged. I use Xara Xtreme for that matter.
Adobe has gotten better with Photoshop in resampling images when enlarging, but it'll never be as good as Illustrator, simply because of the technology behind vector art vs. raster art. Look at some other threads about vector vs. raster. That said, I design most of my logos in Illustrator, but there are certain clients of mine who only need a logo for their website, and have no plans to print it. In those cases, I may use PS to design the logo. THAT said, it's not like you can ONLY use a vector program to design things for print. I'm a designer who's worked in the printing industry for over 10 years. I design stuff ALL the time in Photoshop, most often backgrounds and other art that most likely won't be re-used very often (unlike a logo, which will be used many times in various situations, and will often need to be enlarged to billboard size or something). But designing in Photoshop at 300 dpi is perfectly fine for printing, and there's many advantages to working in Photoshop over Illustrator for certain things (just as there are advantages in AI over PS, as well).
