Help me: Successful forums

One of my websites is www.narutowallpaper.biz which gets 15,000 uniques per day, the problem with the topic 'Naruto' is that it is a cartoon which probably won't be on TV in 5 years time, so I would like to expand into a more general topic before it's too late. I want to expand into 'Anime' and am considering creating a forum and promoting it on NarutoWallpaper.biz. My question is -

What does it take to create a successful forum (1000 posts per day), would a nice skin and good traffic source be good enough or does it take something more. I've never created a forum seriously so I'm not sure what the trick is. Advertising the forum on narutowallpaper.biz would bring 100+ visitors per day, hopefully a couple would sign up.

Is it as simple as having a good traffic source or is that not enough?

Maybe I should just create an anime wallpapers website, then I can SEO for far more keywords and the topics would be more timeless.

    Opinions? Ideas? Thanks.

Naruto has been airing on US TV for years. It's licensed and there's already box set DVDs in stores.

Anime forums, there's so many forums, blogs, streaming sites, scanlation groups, fansubs, fanlistings, and such. It takes either something unique, knowing which series will become popular before others, or a lot of downloads.

If you are serious about starting a forum, you should read some sites like AdminFusion -- communities that are dedicated to starting and maintaining forums.

I guess an anime wallpapers site would be a good option, because it would probably be more successful SEO wise that Naruto. I'm running out of keywords to target for www.narutowallpaper.biz but if I could target keywords relating to any anime series I like the traffic/keywords would be unlimited.

I'm just looking to create a good website in a more broad topic than Naruto. The idea of user generated content from a forum sounds nice.

Then my reason to start a new website is not because Naruto will end but because I have not many keywords left to SEO for.

Well, on a serious note...try to branch out and start a website for the anime that comes along with the Toonami lineup. One Piece is the #1 manga in Japan right now, and shows no signs of stopping -- and you should be able to get converted traffic from your Naruto site to it.

Thanks for the tip. Any ideas what sort of Anime related things people would pay for membership for or should I stick with ad powered wallpapers?

You could try to offer translated manga scans of new chapters that come out...I don't know about the legal and copyright implications about that though.

Add more anime movies like Naruto. Also make sections about new news so you can keep your visitors. There are many things to do...
