    Shawn,

It's time to reboot your server(s) powering DP and it's time to set-up Round Robin DNS.

The loading speeds are ridiculously slow, I am sure DP's servers are straining to stay continuously up..probably building up a lot of cache and virtual memory (RAM). Reboot it/them man!

Then set up Round Robin DNS if it's not already set-up? If you already have it set-up, I think it's time to add more C-Blocks and IP addresses...

It'll let everyone view DP more quickly! It'll help us all, even if you just reboot the server(s)!

    Something needs to be done.

I'm getting connection errors on at least 30% of my pageloads.

actually, neither. he has dell blade servers.

here are the specs of the servers:

    A 7U blade chassis will hold 10 blades/computers, so a 7U chassis could hold 40 Xeon processors, 120GB RAM, 2.9TB drive space (15k rpm Ultra 320 SCSI)

Totally agree with you. It is a hard work to me to always refresh the forum :D. I think it is very slow because of the caches...

    cheers,

Several vB options could be turned off as well, as these option increase server usage and other resources.

"Last post by" in user profiles is one such resource eating feature. The 'related threads' at the bottom of each thread is another. With 700k threads and 140k users that is some pretty big un-needed tables/resources...

While I love both features on, it's a small price to pay to get the pages to load far enough to actually be able to see them. :D

If you check what Shawn has posted ... just too much traffic and hitting the upper bandwidth cap during peak times. Shawn is aware of problem.

If it's bandwidth, then some can be taken up by turning off attachments...

Most of us here are webmasters with our own disk pace we can use for such things ;)

Though, I'm glad it's being worked on regardless!

    Rebooting would help nevertheless.
So would setting up load-balancing, or improving load-balancing if it's already set, with DNS would help a lot too.

I want more details about the server. How is bandwidth being peaked? The data being sent/received by/from the server is too high, or the network connection is getting too much? Where are DP's servers located anyway?

Is there such thing as a Mac server?

And if there is, why do people not use them?

i think increasing the time bewtween two searches can be done will reduce the amount of load....right now two searches can be performed one after te another.....all the high traffic boards keep some time limit in between...some keep 120 sec , some keep 60 sec.....
