How old do you have to be to invest in stock? I am 18 and tried, but got denied. the message said that the website couldn't confirm my social security number.

You're old enough. Maybe you entered your information in wrong? Make sure everything is correct, not just SSN. What broker are you going to use?

By the sound of that message, it seems like they tried to do a credit check and possibly found no credit history.

It's great to start investing at that age and building your wealth as early as possible. Takes a lot of money to play the stock market correctly though. Good luck, the fastest approach would probably be to call, sometimes they take forever to respond to e-mails depending on who you're using.

what is a credit check? I guess I will try e-mailing them. Its not really stock, but sort of. Its paypal, and you invest $1.00 and get like %3.47 more or something. I wish I had enough money to invest in stock.

It's kind of a way for them to verify your information and possibly financial responsibility. I had the same problem with the PayPal Money Market at first until I got my first credit card a while back.
