Just had a couple generic questions... want to get an idea of what everybody else is doing without actually stealing your business models. 1. I know landing page is the way to go, but has anybody had a lot of success with direct linking? 2. Do you make individual landing pages for each thing you are promoting in a diff. niche, or create a website full of content in one specific niche and promote multiple products in one niche? Can probably think of some more to ask later, but for right now these are my big ones. Thanks in advance, Nick
Hi Nick, 1. I don't direct link straight to offers, but I do something similiar: .PHP redirect from my site... What I will do is have a general domain name (we'll call it www.SuperAffiliate.com for an example). If I have an offer to promote (let's say it's Gatorade) I'll set up a sub-domain on my main site that'll look like this: Gatorade4Sale.SuperAffiliate.com I'll put a .PHP redirect on my index page for that subdomain, and then I'll send traffic to my subdomain... but on the url that's displayed on the ad, it'll say Gatorade4Sale.com rather than Gatorade4Sale.SuperAffiliate.com I have GREAT success with this on Google. I have heard it through the grapevine that a couple weeks ago, Yahoo started allowing advertisers to direct link straight to the offers. I don't know this for sure, but it's worth a try. For the most part of it though, I ONLY do .PHP redirects if: - The offer has LOW competition in the search PPC - The offer website that I'm sending the customer, does a good job at selling the customer 2. ALWAYS plan on building a separate landing page site for each different offer you're promoting (unless they're in the same niche). Build a generic template landing page... and then with each different offer you promote... change up the colors, images, articles, and headlines and you'll be able to create them quick.
thanks for all the help! 1. RE: Oh I got ya, yea that makes sense. Sometimes I think some offers would convert way better if people were just being sent directly to the site. It's possible to lose a lot more traffic if you are sending them through to a LP first. 2. RE: so do you also put related offers on one site with some extra content pages? I know that's good for QS and I have gotten great GS doing that in the past. I was just wondering because it's a lot of work and there's no point in doing it if everyone else is getting by without one.
I have direct link campaigns and I feel it's real hit or miss just like a landing page. Yahoo does allow direct linking. I'm using one on keyword url direct linking on yahoo, why? idk just am. LoL I like genesis' idea of making subdomains though. I guess my question is why be the middle man of nothing if you don't even have a LP. You're just direct linking in a way.
Because I don't think Google "likes/appreciates" it when people direct link. I think they shut off/ slow down campaigns if they see one.
Not sure if I quite 100% understand the question.... if I have one offer for Nike Shoes, one for Adidas Shoes, and one for Reebok Shoes, you can set up a domain like ShoesBlowoutSale.com... and make Adidas.ShoesBlowoutSale.com, Reebok.ShoesBlowoutSale.com, etc. Each of those pages will be virtually identical, with the only difference being the images (I'll put a picture of Nike shoes on the Nike offer, and so on...), the headline will say something like Save 85% today on NIKE Shoes, and I'll put a generic article on all the pages... and make sure I strategically place NIKE throughout the article. I am a sincere believer of not working harder than you have too. If you have an offer that is VERY low competition and and it's just you, there's really no sense making an LP, especially if it converts direct linking or PHP directing. I have been running an offer on Azoogle for the past 8 months with no landing page and have been averaging $6-7,000 monthly at an expense of only $1500 monthly through Adwords. The beautiful thing about that offer is this: 1) It is a highly searched for offer... and 2) The only person I'm competing with is the owner of the offer I believe when you are testing out low-competition offers, it is feasible for you to test it on Yahoo using .PHP Directing or Direct Linking. That way, if it's a dog... you haven't lost the time that it took you to create an LP, get an article, etc.
I just meant, are you also making a main site for all of your offers with random content just to help out your QS. Someone told me it's a good thing to do... ionno. Nice! So you use yahoo first just to test offers?
Oh yes... I believe everybody should have at least 1 website (with a very carefully selected domain name) that they can use for all the random offers they will promote. Of course, if you are doing something that is high-traffic or high-competition (ringtones, dating, payday loans, etc.), you definitely need a separate site for each. It does help with QS I believe because you might have 100's of different pages within that 1 website (think of how many categories someone like Aj22 probably has)... all with different keywords and text. Google just loves that! Mostly I use Yahoo to test, but there are times when there is more competition on Yahoo for an offer than there is on Google... so I go with the one with the least competition. P.S. - Whoever came up with Yahoo Search's interface needs to be shot! That is the suckiest interface ever
Yahoo is bad-ass for a lot of things but where they fail is definitely the interface. AJAX is a feature not the main attraction, I always say. :] Hopefully they're working on a faster solution. In fact, all the AJAX wouldn't suck so bad if the site weren't so amazingly slow.
Oh I'm sorry. Yeah, it's: Asynchronous Javascript And XML Put simply, it allows changes to the back-end of the site without reloading the page for the user. The problem arises when the site is slow to communicate with the back-end and the user has to wait for a response.
I will say this... Yahoo is actually making changes for what seems to be the better, if you like these next two things. 1) allowed direct linking 2) soon to allow less than 10 cent clicks @webgenesis I get what you're saying now. You actually direct link (with a redirect) until you decide that it's profitablly and then you build something for it.
Man, I knew I shouldn't have been taking a nap in those computer science courses I took... That is exactly correct my Nebraska Cornhusker friend
webgenesis, You have written a lot of amazing posts on this forum. I've read most of them. You are genius! A lot of useful tips. You wrote: So your Display Url isn't the same as Landing page Url. But how do you do it?! I mean, according to Adwords Rules it's prohibited. . It seems to me that you have an old well-established adwords account with a lot of campaigns/adgroups. Aren't you afraid to be banned by adwords one day? Man, you're playing with fire! This is my first post! Sorry for my bad english. It's my fourth and non-native language.
If you notice, all of webgenesis post's are before Apr 2008, the date google came out with the rule about destination url being the same as landing page url What I would really love to know is how anyone is getting less than 10c clicks. Am obviously doing lot of wrong things, coz am yet to experience that on any of my campaigns.
