The way things are going, this is probably one of the smartest, most far-sighted things we've done as a society. Given that so many plants and animals are dieing off, it seems prudent to try to protect what we can.

What do you think? Do the same with the DNA of the fauna?

I think this is a brilliant idea! It makes perfect sense. Some day, enevitably there will be a global disaster and think what an impact losing weat etc would have on the worlds food supply.

I just hope white widdow is in there... ;)

Yep, this solution of protecting the seeds is ripe for a movie or book. Maybe a meteor hits or humans create some superbug-hybrid-virus-thing that kills most of the plants on the planet.

    Anyway, it's a great idea!

Who knows about the millions of seeds that exist a gene that can help with the cure for cancer or Aids? With the Amazon rapidly declining and the rain forests of Sumatra and Kalimantan being burnt down to make way for oil palm plantations, this is a very intelligent act to preserve what mother nature had given out which we had wantonly destroyed.

Very true! I think it's the smaller, third-world countries that have the majority of undiscovered plants.

I know that bananas could be lost in a few years. That's scary! I love bananas.
