I got a hosting (C-Panel) n I got no idea how to start of with it ... I am looking for some practical stuff . I don't want to master it, I just need some basic/fundametal knowledge, so that I can make a website myself n maintain it. So, from where can I learn this ? Pls let me know, thanks.
Start with very basic HTML and then learn how to use FTP. Those would probably be the initial parts of learning how to manage an online site.
If you want to learn some basic info maybe on HTML you could start here http://w3schools.com/ or maybe you want to bypass that and get a site or blog up and running quickly?
You can get a generic but easy to manage website by using content management systems like phpnuke, drupal etc
Yes, i also recommend this one.. i came to this site i think 4yrs ago... learned every basic things here..
You should have asked this question before you paid for hosting. You can create, view, and edit HTML documents on your PC, so all your doing is paying for nothing while you learn. Even with CMSs it pays to have a basic knowledge of HTML and/or server-side scripting before you start using them. What kind of site are you trying to make?
Yeah, PHP is definitively almost a given now for any top tier website. You can do without but even websites in HTML now generally use php includes.
I agree wholeheartedly, angilina. Go with a good book on HTML. One I recommend VERY highly (available in both the dead tree format and PDF) is Build Your Own Web Site The Right Way Using HTML & CSS by Ian Lloyd. That book will teach you what you need to know (since sites like w3schools are references, not tutorials) so you can then go from there.
I second this. I finally bought after Dan´s repeative suggestions in several threads and the book IS very good.
