    Start shorting your stocks!

Don't like to jump the gun, but the whole "In fact, the world is almost evenly split over the issue, with countries' positions appearing to reflect their internal concerns." statement did it for me.

Will America's elite get us in yet another useless war?

No don't worry , there will be no World War III (at least at the moment)

Of course Russia won't accept the Kosovo's Independence but this is the reality. There are also new elections in Russia so after Putin's disappearance things might change , if not , who cares. There wont be war at the moment

The Russians aren't as strong as you believe. The Russian Generals were shocked by the rapid defeat of the Soviet style Iraqi army in 2003 by the much smaller coalition forces.

The Russian Generals know that do not have the power to push through Nato Romania and Hungary into Serbia.

I don't think WW3 will happen until the U.S. stops trading with China. Russia is not nearly as relevant as Putin would like them to be.

no WW3 will happen most probably, but if it happens we will be sent back to stone age, with all the chemical, biological, thermonuclear weapons of mass destruction nothing will be left of us and our civilization !

Meh, only china is capable of initiating a ww3. Not russia.

Or maybe that's because, in all the good ww3 scenarios i've seen, china features prominently.

The Russian and Chinese military build-ups are casuing India to begin a military build-up as well.

The US is selling a billion dollars of C-130 transport planses to India and it's expected that India may buy $50-$75 of US hardware.

The most likely place for WWW3 to start is either Manchuria or Kasmir.

Why would we stop trading with China, we get cheap goods which leaves us with extra money to spend on other things which increases our standard of living, china gets its people jobs building us cheap goods increasing their standard of living, its a win-win for everyone.

Russia has enough power to start a war. I don't know what the outcome would be but it is a much different country then it was 10 years ago.

10K+ nukes and a couple bombers will suffice to bring war.

Exactly. To take it further, we turn a blind eye to China's imperial expansion in sub-Saharan Africa and they give us a pass in the Middle East. Through this arrangement only China and America are wealthy/powerful enough to really cause WW3 (conventionally anyway).

In the 19th century a similar arrangement among European powers led to the "long peace." The bad news is, when the powers ran out of colonies to conquer, they started fighting each other in WW1.

They did fight their neighbors but they also fought all over the globe in the colonies. Chances are if China wanted to pull off a big conflict they would go after the good agricultural land on the Russian side of their northern borders...

Then again, we have a lot of politicians pushing the "anti-trade" meme. If we cut off the cash flow to China all bets are off!

Thats what Napoleon thought with his fellow Hitler. No one ever was saying that Russia is rich and powerful, and the wars were starting when Russia was in a poor state. Surprisingly, this big land is still ours ;)

Oh, and by the way, I dont think we have less nukes now than in Soviet times.

China to attack the world? I dont thnk so, they are much more peaceful than americans + russians + europeans combined :) However, when they get to 2 bln population mark....hm, things might change!

What's the troop strength of the Russian Army and how many divisions.

There is a big difference between offensive strength and defensive strength.

Better focus on Manchuria. NATO is not going to invade Russia.

Manchuria is spatsely inhabitated and China claims it. Due to Chinese immigration to the area you will soon face a Kosovo type situation.

I recall reading somewhere, that the Russians have maintained their officer corps, which means that if they have to organize an army, they will be able to fill regiments very quickly with enlisted men because the command structure will already exist.

That said, the next real war will be nuclear. Border skirmishes in provincial territories do not constitute a real war by today's standards.

While people freak out about Iranian centrifuges, almost 100 suitcase nukes are missing from the USSR after the iron curtain fell.

What the dimensions of the suitcase?

Still 160 lbs is really small and a big threat.
