    This is amazing. I was just looking up a stats site, they are down today so i was just looking up at some of the Top 50 sites who are raking in a lot of traffic.

    one of the site was http://www.southernrailway.gov.in/

    its a southern railway site catering to trains in south india. Their traffic is very good about avg, 100,000 pV per day.

    Funniest thing is they are running Adsense ads. Now i understood why lallu yadav (for non-indian, he is india's railway minister :D ) posted profits this year. lol

    At the same time, i doubt if its a railway official site or someone just screwing around with their official copyright name? All the contact looks legitimate though.

    If it is not against government policies running commercial ads in a government website, then that is just fine.

    This website has page rank 142000 in alexa and also running yielmanager ads. I think this website is getting 1500 visits per day. Making 100$ per month.
    My website have same rank and visits.

    Knowing how corrupt some Indian officials are, Mr Yadav will probbaly pocket all the adsense income from the site.:D

    Indian Railways need that bit of money? I really had a hard time believing. IMHO Adsense really does not look good for gov or gov related sites, it should be more for commercial sites.

    Adsense is not only a source of money but also a good way to improve Google indexation for your website. Many companies put a little google ad on their websites just for this reason and not for the possible revenue. Of course, by using filters you can avoid diplaying ads from competitors.

    That aside if I am the govt I will forbid them, it is a matter of face, not very nice to put adsense on a govt related web site.

    Indian railway and subsidiary corporations own around 80 websites, it is clean way of monetising to cover the server costs and etal-afterall those drops of water make the ocean-ain't it

    Regarding google displaying competitors ads, that is kinda funny, there is no competitor for Railways in India-it may be all travel agents vying for a spot in those adblocks-they may be having a field day

    they already got money from taxes and support goverments..
    the website been maneged from internet administrators not the rialway managers !!!
    so all the incoming goes to the website manager and the people under him..
    "i think so that"..
    but the good way is making a web site and start earn from it..

    This is definitely possible, most major corporations outsource the running of their web sites to companies, just write in to your local newspapers, I am sure the railway company will have that removed in no time at all.
