Using Current Issues to Sell Ringtones (For example the Election)

    Ha,

Today I came across an adsense ad that asked the question "Would you vote for Obama?" ..well although I'm not American and wouldn't be able to vote in the election I was curious to see the results so I clicked on the ad.

It takes you to this page:

    http://freeprintsnow.com/barack/barack.html

at the point if you vote it ends up taking you to a ringtones offer page. I thought this ideas was very clever and I don't think I have seen it elsewhere....what do you guys think?

I wonder what their conversion rate might be?

I tried it - the conversions were terrible.

However, I got decent conversions using email/zip submit offers.

    Coach,

We know that the zips and e-mails would probably work.

Would ringtones really convert? I mean it's not targeted at all. You're just hoping that someone takes the bait.

I've promoted ringtones for months now through content network (high-volume), and to my knowledge, Wall Street Journal Readers and CNN readers aren't exactly the perfect ringtone audience.

Yeah, aj. I would think that this COULD work...but not with this demographic.

Gotta' drop down a bit on the old IQ chart, I'm thinking.

Most definitely... ringtones is basically a 16-24 year old demographic and you'll get the most bang for your buck targeting that market.

But that marketing technique would work for other offers (not just Zip submits), if you get a little creative with it :)

Basically put, I honestly believe every facet of the teenage/young adult market is open game in the ringtone market... even teens that read journals.

Just keep on thinking of creative ways to approach those niche markets within the teenage population for things they love (such as ringtones :D), put those ideas to action, and you WILL flourish!

Test every idea out... after all, what's the worst that could happen to you (besides losing money :) )

Interesting replies... I would think this method can have a wide range of applications to get traffic to almost any offer cheaply.

I personally would have targeted it a little much better atleast in the music industry.

For example the ad could of run something along these lines...

    "Is Madonna still hot?"

    "Vote Yes or No"

    ======
    or

    "Are ringtones annoying?"

    "Vote Yes or No"

...etc..etc.. for ringtone offers but now depending the Azoogle offer your promoting you can think of questions that people who would be interesting in the offer your promoting might be interested in answering or seeing results for.

Yes it will work, but start with your demographic and target things they're interested in first. Then tie it all together with some good sales copy. Be creative, it'll work.

    i noticed the same thing

as some of you may know we had a pretty big earthquake in the UK a few days ago but since it didnt wake me up haha! i woke up to the radio telling me about it. So when i get to my computer i type in earthquake in UK.

There was a full list of sponsored links so it intrigued me to what people would be advertising (less than 7 hours since the event)

Although every ad copy was on the lines of Earthquakes Rocks UK read more blah blah only one took me to an actual news page. I bet you cant guess the rest ....

    Ringtones
Protect Your House from natural disasters (home insurance)
    Credit Cards

This was in Google too, so im guessing they wont of last more than a day but hey thats all they need. I bet it was searched for A LOT!

I was targeting the earthquake keyword broad match, 10 minutes after it happened. Let's just say that my budget was blown in 20 minutes (and I was getting £0.01 clicks on search)

Does this same tactic work in search or does Quality Score take you out of the competitive click price range?

I would imagine if you make your landing page (voting page) highly relevant to your actual adsense ad you shouldn't have any problems with receiving a competitive quality score. Infact thats one of the key benefits of this tactic...you can create tons of highly optimized voting pages relevant to each of your adgroups and you can search out hot now topics (current events/issues) with very low PPC costs.
