My buddy has this problem and a combination of benedryl and alderol does not work for him all of the time but sometimes it does. His mind races to. He thinks he is not stimulating his mind enough so he is going to start trying to read books and things and do things that stimulate his mind before he goes to sleep and he hopes that will work. I drove over the road truck driving so I can sleep anywhere anytime. My advice to you is to get a night job. I got a night job myself but that's mainly because working security I only like working the night shift. Also I can be around during the day for fire calls when manpower is at the lowest because most people are at work.
Well, your situation is very unhealthy, I don’t know what to say, but you need to control it, as this is a massive threat to your health, and nothing to be taken lightly.
I used to have big problems with sleep. If you're in business, ideas and problems will always come at you. The best way is to train yourself to become disciplined with your time. Make a list at night and make a "brain dump" of all things on your mind. When you work, only think of work, when you go to your bed, never think of work. If your mind starts to wonder, get up and go to the room for that purpose (bedroom vs office etc). Hope this helps, it did for me.
I sometimes cannot go to sleep for 2-3 hours when my mind is racing. Recently though I have taught myself to focus on one thought (what my car looks like, etc.) and I generally can go to sleep quicker. It's tough to keep your mind focused at first though.
I used to do that. I seem to have built up a tolerance /immunity to it though (for sleeping purposes). Anyway, thanks for EVERYONE's advice. I really appreciate it. I'll continue going to the sleep disorder clinic and hopefully can work things out without meds.
