Can CJ track what website you are actually using to promote programs? If so would the merchants see this information too? I.E. Let's say I am promoting the ebay Affiliate program and tell them I am using the code on www.Mywebsite1.com However without telling them I decided to also use the affiliate code on www.Mywebsite2.com So would the cookie tell CJ where the visitor came from?
CJ can track where a click comes from because of the referer string sent as part of the http header when a link is clicked. (unless of course you're doing some form of link cloaking). I would imagine they store this data and make it available to advertisers. They could store this in the cookie, or not, they know anway.
It's ok to use aff links on all your websites. Don't use them on the websites you don't own or you don't have permission to post aff links on.
Under your account tab it is easy to add all the sites you want. Why take the risk of getting banned, unless Website2 is not compliant with CJ or advertisers TOS?
if someone wanted to use my site name with their cj id, will they need to add my site name to their website list? I already have the site being used with cj for myself, just need to know if the users need to do the same.
I don't know if it's a problem with CJ and have wondered this. However, Commission Junction can absolutely tell what the referring website is. Whenever you click a link, the website you're visiting will know where that click came from with just very simple tracking.
each site that you are using to place your affil links should be registered in your account with cj and the appropriate pid used in the link. if you do not do this clicks from invalid links will be generated and if excessive cj may suspend your account. ci can't see why this is an issue? why would'nt you do that anyway? apart from anything else if you don't use the right pids/tracking how will you know which site is generating income?
