New to AdWords: Disable Content Network?

Discussion in 'Google AdWords' started by Anemene, Feb 25, 2008.

I recently got $100 dollars in AdWords credits with a purchase. I had the content network enabled for a few weeks with many impressions and clicks(although the CPC was pretty low), but no purchases on my website. Now I just have search enabled but I have had less than 30 impressions and 0 clicks despite raising the CPC to 10 times its previous level. So I'm wondering: should I go with the large amount of impressions from content, or stick to the low numbers with Search?

Until you become a pro go with search only. Forget content network for now ok my dear.
Check your ad position and see if you appear in the first 11 ads. Do this, get one of your key words, go to google search and type that keyword, check to see if you add is showing amongst the first 11 sponsored search. If you see it, look at the position...is it amongst the first 1-6? if yes, do not click on it...if you do, you get charged. If its not amongst the first 1-6, consider increasing your cost per click a little bit...If you are between the first 4 ads, your add shows on the search network.....you know what i mean right? if you are below 4 i.e from 5 to 11...you appear only on google.

I just did a search and none of my keywords show ads on google. I increased the CPC and we'll see what happens. Thanks!

My campaign was running successfully and I was getting satisfactory numbers of clicks. About 5 days back I increased my bid amount and added some more campaigns. Now I find that no impressions or clicks are recorded although my ads are appearing in Google Search when I tested as suggested by Mr. cjashu. I also incidently saw one of my ad in a content website. google support is not replying. Can you give me a solution, Mr. cjashu!

Select your campaign. Click on "Edit Campaign Setting" and check your settings closely. May be you have misconfigured your campaign.

I'd turn off search and only run it on the content network.

search is much easier to master than content. Content should be held off on for now

leave your campaign to run for a while ...keep monitoring it though. Split test your ads, write different ads, for the same campaign, google with rotate them to see which one gets more clicks. You will be able to see which one gets more clicks, keep testing your ads, url ...remember to use your keywords on your ad title.
Are you using [] "" or open keywords? it makes a difference too.
Which realy gets clicks is your ad copy.....learn how to write good ads.

if you're in a service based or retail business, the content network is a complete waste of money. It puts your ad on sites that will never turn to conversions, I've learned this by experience. Once I turned it off and only set ads to show on Google.com, everything got less expensive and conversions went up, overall.

I disagree, I have several service and retail clients whom all have highly successful content campaigns. What you need to understand is that content does not work like search, so you most likely have your content campaigns improperly setup.

Well although I think content might be helpful one day, for now I have just search set up. Still, I'm probably doing lots of things wrong. I don't expect immediate results, but so far, nothing, not even a click. Does anyone know any sites with absolute beginners' guide to AdWords? I know the forum has some good advice, does anyone know of a thread with some sort of guide?

P.S. I will try to post an update if I find any success (or even if i don't).

I'd stick with low numbers from search, no need to rush to spend all of your money.

The reason why you are getting low impressions is your low bid amount. Sometimes having a low budget a day also reduces the number of times the ads are shown.
