I heard talk that a site which gets too many back links, too quickly would be penalised by Google and others. Aside from commonsense limit, does anyone have any experience as to what constitutes "too many links, too quickly"? Also how long would such a penalty last? Simon
I have seen quite a lot of people around the forums here who have been hit with this penalty...but if the links are natural and keeps comming in...google might sense that its good content and revoke the penalty too.....
Over the last month I've picked up about 450 directory links, 10-20 a day. After a few days O went from 6th in a search on Google to 4th. That lasted for one day and then went to 7th and have been there since. The top 3 haven't moved in months, the next three shuffle. I know I have more links and better content than at least 3 sites ahead of me but don;t know how long it takes to see a permanent change in rank from adding links quickly.
Hi, The back links for your site should be natural according to google, and this will happen only if your site is of a good quality. When you buy links of very high page ranks or if you use a black hat method for buying links, definetly your site will be penalised. This may result your site to have a lesser PR than before or no PR and in some cases your site will also be black listed. When you get more of natural back links, then you need not worry.
It will probably be taken on an inividual case, if a site gets 3000 links on the same day, it could be classes as blackhat but if you have just added a funny video etc all it takes is word of mouth for this to get around and people will link to it form blog posts and other sites.
So if you have a new site and submitted your site to a ton of directories and links directories, do you think it would also be penalized by Google since all the links would probably be recognized around the same times? Or is that something completely different? And yes, I ask because I did this recently to a site that I just opened up for Google to crawl after months of sitting and not adding any content. TJ
Not exactly. You might submit to those directories all at the same time, but because you're relying on people in some instances, approval won't be immediate. So your directory inclusions will probably be staggered over time. Look at it this way: if you're a computer, you can churn through hundreds if not thousands of submissions in one sitting. Regardless of whether these are staggered or not, too many listing would be coming through at once, which would raise a red flag with the search engines. Us humans often take a little longer with these things, so the process is more natural. So it's all about identifying natural patterns in behavour, and penalizing — or at least monitoring — unnatural (which can often indicate automated) behavour...
There are several directory submission service offerers who now provide delayed submissions. ALso make sure that all of your backlinks are not from directories alone. Blend it well.
attick, It might not just be a function of your content but how many of the links you just developed have the anchor text to match the keyword you are trying to rank for. It seems that a sites size in number of pages also could be a factor. Do the other sites have more of the keyword you are looking for in their domain name or page title? If so that could be enough to have them rank higher. I would try to find links beyond just directories with the right anchor text and that should move you up.
Well, keep a limit. Don't over-do it. Make it a daily task to only submit your site to 5 directories or so. It's better to be safe, dont take the risk.
pay attention to link quality to. I choose hi PR sites with relevant content and find away in. An example would be to post a video in youtube ! Also pay attention to the lead sites (1-3) site age .
actually, simply posting a good video on youtube can get you a good amount of traffic and some sales too. That depends on the niche though. I am not sure if the backlinks count on youtube, whether they use dofollow or not.
The real question is my site gets too many back links, too quickly but what is too many? How do you plan on getting this back links? I really hope it does not Penalties you I only have about 400 backlinks now but come next mo, I will be getting 20k over night or how ever it works my friend is going to be giving me a sitewide link on his ecommerce store he has over 20k of items for sale that 20k of links right? Google must understand things like that happen and you should not get Penalties for it. Butterflies Forever Sami
Me thinks you shouldn't need to worry about this, if you're site only has 400 backlinks, google couldn't penalize you more than 20,000 sitewide backlinks could help. This might be a bigger problem if you're site already had a high PR/SERP and you were worried about preserving its good standing.
Also remember if you are dealing with a new site that the age of the site will count against you if it is new.
