I'm thinking of creating a link in the footer of one of my sites (imagexc) to another site (sketchfile.com) I own. The sites are in my signature. Both sites share a host under the same account. Does this matter to the search enigines? The sites are related. SketchFile is a longer term project so I would like to give it some oneway links. Would this be better than reciprocal links?
Hi, This will not be a problem for the search engine and you can go with it. But, you can have reciprocal links, instead of one way links as it will be beneficial for both your sites.
I think that's not a good idea. That would be cross linking. You should always do 3-way link exchanges (link from site A to B, from B to C). Not A to B and B to A.
I agree, create a one way link. If its relevant it will carry more weight. Some search engines might knock a little off the relevance if both sites are running on the same IP address.
While there's only one or two links involved, it's not too much of an issue — my 'blog and company website were on the same server, but (crucially, maybe) on different IP addresses. Too many links, and the search engines will start to think you're offering up satellite link farms...
one way, reciprocal or 3 way links, they are all gonna be on same IP address in this case. Might be beneficial, but probably not much.
