How to Transfer a Domain?

Never had to do that. So, some questions come to mind which are:

    1) How can I begin with transferring a domain from one registrar to another?
    2) How long will it take for a Transfer to complete?
    3) Will my site be down during this period?
    4) Has anyone transferred a domain from Yahoo! to GoDaddy?

Any advice would be highly appreciated. :)

    1. Get the domain secret code from your present registrar, goto new registrar and click domain transfer, follow the steps, and confirm the email notification when received :)
    2. few hours to few days - depends upon loosing registrar.
    3. change ns records - this will take few hours.
    4. No - you are moving from bad to worst :(

    1) The secret code is authorization code? The email notification must have to be on the same domain; like ?

    2) loosing registrar? What is that?

    3) What's ns records?

    4) Haven't had any issue in four years now, so it's not bad to worst. Have you used Yahoo! for domains? :)

there are many other registrar on the net, it is good idea to read review of the system, features they offer.
well it all depends on what are the issues you have with your current registrar! is their system or is it the price? you can choose any domain registration provider that will fi your needs price/system.

    Take a look at DirectDot.com

You have to pay minimum 1 year renewal fee. This will extend your domain expiry by 365 days. Suppose your domain is expiring on 9th Sept 2008 and you transfer this right now then you have to pay 1 year renewal registration fee and your domain will expire on 9th Sept 2009. Clear?:)

When you transfer a domain to another registrar, you have to pay 1 year fee. You can call this renewal fee as this renews domain for 1 year more. Is it clear now? :D
